Among the veterans in Normandy for today's D-Day anniversary is a soldier who was one of only 18 from his 100-strong unit to reach their objective; another who almost missed the fighting after being insubordinate to a superior; a gunner on one of the first tanks ashore; and a paratrooper who landed into occupied France hours before the seaborne invasion. Here they tell their stories.

God Bless these great American war fighters. We owe a great deal to these heroes. I have a former neighbor, CW04 John C. Cash, USN (Ret). Served our nation from 1939-1969. Just turned 96 in September. Call him regularly to see how he's doing. These men and women were truly the Greatest Generation.
