I was station at HAAF out in Savannah and we had to go to Stewart numerous of times. Now, for Bliss...Bliss is pretty amazing! I was stationed here back in the early 90's as a young Cavalry Trooper with 3rd ACR and it was a good time then when I was single and did not know any better. Now, as a grown up with a family we received orders to come back here this past summer and I was not happy, but let me tell you...El Paso and Fort Bliss are not at all like they were in the early 90's...this place is awesome! Seriously, the amenities on post are nothing short of amazing and El Paso itself is really a great city and is getting better everyday! As far as your job, you'll be in 1AD, the Army's only armored division so expect to do what you're getting paid to do...a lot! The training here is plentiful and the ranges are top notch. So, with that in mind, my choice would be Bliss over Stewart.Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 9 at 2017 2:48 PM2017-02-09T14:48:22-05:002017-02-09T14:48:22-05:00SSG Walter Corretjer2326832<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>They are good posts.Fort Bliss is my favorite.Response by SSG Walter Corretjer made Feb 9 at 2017 3:03 PM2017-02-09T15:03:36-05:002017-02-09T15:03:36-05:00SSG Walter Corretjer2326833<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>They are good posts.Fort Bliss is my favorite.Response by SSG Walter Corretjer made Feb 9 at 2017 3:03 PM2017-02-09T15:03:36-05:002017-02-09T15:03:36-05:00SGT Dave Tracy2327339<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I loved my time at Bliss. The post and the greater El Paso area were awesome. The Army has dropped untold millions of dollars there in the last decade and greatly expanded it; not so much in terms of size, because with the training area and nearby White Sands Missile Range, you've got all the room in the world, it expanded in terms of its function and population.<br />The post has everything: shopping, entertainment & recreation, etc. The housing on post is new or refurbished (or in the process of); housing off post is plentiful and affordable.<br />It is hot and sunny for 11 months and 2 weeks a year (OK, maybe not THAT much), and while you can see Mexico from your house (in my case, that was literally true) you cannot go there...so there are downsides.Response by SGT Dave Tracy made Feb 9 at 2017 6:42 PM2017-02-09T18:42:33-05:002017-02-09T18:42:33-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member2327430<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I absolutely hated Fort Stewart. HAAF is a different story, but Stewart was horrible for me. I hated 3ID, their millions of silly rules, singing in the morning, and the fact that 3ID ran the post. I lived in condemned housing where I could smell the sewage treatment plant. The housing agency was notorious for giving you a dirty house, charging hundreds of dollars when you cleared, and then not using the money to clean or fix it. The barracks were condemned shortly after being built because of black mold. There were holes in the walls due to poor building and our soldiers were getting but by brown recluse spiders in their rooms. Hinesville.... It was my first duty station. It has grown since I last was stationed there and I enjoyed it for a while before we moved our unit to Ft Carson six months later. As for Ft Stewart, it is also hot but also very humid. I received some great training out of the 3rd ID and it has excelled my career to this current day. You will train a lot and grow in your career from the Training and Soldiers around you. Our unit was close so we learned from each other and made each other better Soldiers. Hinesville is okay but the malls are in Savannah. You have several beaches/islands that are a short drive away. You can cross into SC and hit beach areas at Hilton Head and Bluffton. If you are a golfer there are pro courses nearby. There is also good fishing. Savannah has the second largest St Patrick's Day Parade in the US. Orlando, FL is 4hrs away. Jacksonville, FL is 2 hrs away. Savannah is a 30-45 minute drive depending on which side of the city you are trying to reach. Charleston, SC is almost 2 hrs away. I do not remember how far Atlanta is from Stewart. Many Soldiers visit Savannah regularly as well as Tybee Island, St Simons Island, Jekyll Island, and other areas near Brunswick. You can find things to do any time of year. Some people dislike the area because of the humidity, because Hinesville is small, because you have to drive to Savannah for malls and more places to eat, or they do not like the idea of not having a mall in Hinesville. My favorite are the people that dislike Stewart because of the OPTEMPO. Every place I have been stationed (Bragg, Stewart, Bliss, Leonard Wood, Korea, Germany) I have enjoyed. I encourage you to get out and see the surroundings because any duty station is only as fun as you want it to be.
