Of course I know I can reclass, but I am wondering if there are any other options. Such as the NCOs that get rated outside MOS because they fill an M-TOE slot.Coming up on 5 years of service; this is my second time as a Training room NCO. You are the victim of your own success. When I was a 1SG both times, I made sure that my Orderly Room was manned by good Soldiers. I would talk with your leadership and make sure they know that this will be your second time. You do not want to spend too much time outside of your MOS.Response by 1SG Mike Case made Sep 5 at 2016 11:34 PM2016-09-05T23:34:51-04:002016-09-05T23:34:51-04:00SSG Daniel Miller1866266<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Get away from the training room while you still can. Talk to branch about reclassing, if you really want to be 42A. Don't let being good at paperwork ruin your chance for being competitive for promotion within your actual MOS.Response by SSG Daniel Miller made Sep 6 at 2016 12:08 AM2016-09-06T00:08:58-04:002016-09-06T00:08:58-04:00SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member1867455<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am a 15U (CH-47 Maintainer) with a 42A Secondary MOS. If you really want to be a 42A, request reclassification (4187 if outside your reenlistment window; Option 3 if in your window). However, be aware that promotion points for 42As have historically been very high to maxed out (798). Promotion beyond E-4 is very difficult and takes a long time. And if you are a 42A, being stuck in a Company Orderly Room is a negative career step. Battalion or higher is where you want to be.<br /><br />But if 42A is where you really want to be, then request reclass and go to school. The school is 6 weeks long and not difficult at all. Just remember that being a 42A is a thankless job and promotions come slowly unless you can max out points.Response by SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 6 at 2016 12:20 PM2016-09-06T12:20:53-04:002016-09-06T12:20:53-04:00SGT Chris Hill1868151<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I too, was a training room NCOIC for less than a year, prior to getting out. There isn't any way to be awarded the 42A slot, unless you've done the re-class and AIT process for it. As others have said previously, run while you can. Your commander and 1SG know that your position is hurting you but will not care, because they have to fill the position somehow. I would use open door policy to get out of that training room and back to your MOS.Response by SGT Chris Hill made Sep 6 at 2016 4:10 PM2016-09-06T16:10:46-04:002016-09-06T16:10:46-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1870301<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was in the training room at my first assignment for two years. My original MOS was 92G, my 1SG called HRC even trying to get my MOS changed but it couldn't happen without the AIT. I reclassed with TDY enroute so I never did the 92G thing. But back to your question, you have to attend the training.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 7 at 2016 10:25 AM2016-09-07T10:25:03-04:002016-09-07T10:25:03-04:00SGT Thomas Heimel2499228<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Training NCO is an additional duty it is not a specific MOS.
