SPC Private RallyPoint Member1358222

I was discharged from the Army on November 13, 2012. It was a chapter 11 RE-3. Now I am currently trying to enlist in the Air Force I've taken my ASVAB I got a 73 and now I'm waiting. My recruiter told me I am being considered for three different waivers the first is to be considered a new enlistment, which he said was the simplest and most likely what I would receive. The second is that I will be considered prior service with my MOS, which is not going to happen since I didn't make it to AIT and my DD-214 doesn't have it listed. The third is that I will be considered prior service with direct duty, probably not going to happen since I didn't complete basic. I'm 100% okay with being a new enlistment, I get to start over, but with the upper hand on what to expect. This process so far has taken about 3 months. My recruiter told me that the last prior service he had took 6-7 months to get a waiver. Not that it matters, but the back story of my discharge, it was supposed to be a medical I was told I had shattered my knee cap according to the bone scan I was told to go back the next day to start my med board paperwork. So I went back the doctor I had talked to wasn't there and there was no record of my bone scan I don't know what happened, the other doctor that I saw that day called me a liar and said I faked it and called the captain of my battalion and recommended me for a chapter 11 and I had no say. Yeah, it sucks, but if I would have med boarded I wouldn't have the chance I have now to make a career out of what I want. My hope is to be able to pick a medical AFSC. Any advice or information from experience would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: after a bit of a run around I was told by my recruiter that my discharge was for pregnancy?! Which I most certainly was not. They're also saying in addition to supposedly being pregnant I had some kind of injury which they told me as I was being discharged that I had no injuries. So now I've been trying to get ahold of doctors from 2012 in Oklahoma and since I don't live there anymore it's a ginormous headache. But nevertheless I am determined. I should have all my paperwork from the doctors by June 18th. And I will post another update when I know something new. Wish me luck!!!!!Chances of getting a waiver to re-enlist?2016-03-06T09:19:06-05:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member1358222

I was discharged from the Army on November 13, 2012. Ineligible for enlistment unless a waiver is granted." The Guard is title 32 and has much less trouble obtaining a waiver (which you will require) for enlistment. Complete your AIT, drill a couple of times with the unit, then go to an active duty recruiter and apply to transfer to active duty. These things are important: full compliance with weight control policy, 50 or higher on ASVAB: spotless civilian police record. Be sure to pick an MOS or AF skill you like because you will likely be stuck with it. This will take some time but it will give you a chance to redeem yourself.
What was the outcome of your knee injury? These don't go away and if it exists and is causing problems you'll need a waiver for this too.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 6 at 2016 9:55 AM2016-03-06T09:55:37-05:002016-03-06T09:55:37-05:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member1358495

Look up the most current prior service business rules. That'll tell what jobs are available. If you didn't make Six months in the army you aren't considered prior service. You are non-glossary prior service and for all intents and purposes treated as you had never served. If the knee was really broken, you should have documentation, hopefully that went up with the waiver. Otherwise your fate is in the hands of gods.
Either way, good luck. I spent two years trying to get in and ended up in the reserves, to later make the jump to active duty.Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 6 at 2016 12:12 PM2016-03-06T12:12:29-05:002016-03-06T12:12:29-05:00Capt Tom Brown1358516

Sounds like you have gotten a lot of very good suggestions and ideas on how to proceed through the re-entry process required for your particular situation. I was a recruiter from 1982-1985. At that time we were only taking the cream of the cream of the crop. I had maybe only one or too waivers approved my whole recruiting career. If all of your paperwork is in your package and it has been sent to the recruiting Squadron Commander, you should know in a few days if the waiver is approved. Then it should go to the Group Commander and that should only take a few weeks. I would ask my Recruiter to find out if it has been approved at these levels. When the Air Force gives to the Recruiting Command it's Fiscal year goals, it includes non prior service applicants and prior service applicants, Officer applicants, Medical, Lawyers, and so on. The goals are then broken down and given to the groups then to squadron. Prior services applicants are opened until the Air Force meets it goal. Prior service goals can be shut off as early as a month into the year. I may be wrong but I do not see the Air Force treating you like a non prior when you have a DD-214. I would seek and obtain a complete copy of my medical records and try to meet a board to change my RE Code. It is not a good but not bad and not the end of the road. Had you gotten an RE-4, that would have been a whole other story.
Chapter 11 means you didn't finish Basic, you left as entry level; no big thing.
First, go to your personal doctor and get your knees examined, and have the clearance provided to the MEPS' doctor, who will do a complete physical. second, look at the paperwork and just answer the reason in it: I was young, weak, and made a mistake.
