WO1 Private RallyPoint Member 4955370 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Good day everyone!<br /><br />I am in a multi-cross road of choices in my career and sending out some feelers and start a discussion, get pros/cons, and input on what options I am looking at thus far. I have one more year til my reenlistment window opens and want to get back to the Army after being in the JS, as well as getting back to being Airborne (want/need that star on my wings.)<br /><br />1. Regiment - Would allow me to get back to airborne, go to Ranger school, Jump Master, and Air Assault which are all things i want to accomplish. As well as a better chance for another deployment for more experiences.<br /><br />2. DS/AIT PSG/SGL - I honestly would mind any of these, and in my mind DS sounds more rewarding and challenging, but know that any option would help with picking up SFC (how much would it help.)<br /><br />3. Regular Airborne unit - Get back to being Airborne, likely in an S-2 NCOIC position which would give me more leadership time.<br /><br />4? <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As a staff SSG that has rated section leader time, Id choose (I did choose) DSS.<br />1: I knew it or recruiter was in the works for SSG&#39;s in my position sooner or later.<br />2: Of the 2, I wanted my choice of DSS over recruiter so I had my PSG at the time call in a favor with DS branch and 48 hours later the unit received my orders for DSS.<br />DS duty today is a far cry from when I did it, but end of the day it needs to be done, and it needs to be done as best as a dedicated SM can... so go, figure out the duty, the limitations imposed, and give it the old NCO middle finger and do a great job training SM anyway

Instead of “Just thinking what would be best for me” What would be best for the Army and me .. serve both needs/wants at the same time. Let them see that you want to put the Army needs first n the big picture and hopefully they see this selflessness and will work with you to achieve some of your goal. In the years i’d been in the AF I always tried putting the AF’s need ahead of my own. and let them see that. Eventually we came to agreement that both our need/want could work together..

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>IMO take an assignment to a line unit, choice 3. Get back to doing the work that really matters for a Sargent, leading and developing Soldiers. If you do that well, you’ll be promoted and have some of the opportunities you listed in choice 1. You’ve demonstrated you can do the HQ staff stuff, now go lead!
