Hey all- I’m going to go out on a limb and put my situation out there for any sage advice. My career counselors haven’t been so great and Reddit usually comes through.

I am a 12Y SSG (newly promoted) sitting in a squad leader position. This is my second assignment and I am just over four years in (Came in as a SPC). I’ve been eyeing a broadening assignment with DAS for a while now, and was denied in January but intend to reapply come August. The thing is, our branch is hurting for SSG and my branch manager has pretty much said (without really saying) that he won’t release junior NCOs, but he has released senior NCOs for it.

I definitely intend to reenlist. I’ll drop another packet for DAS in August and see what happens since it’s already pretty much done. Otherwise, I am mulling my options and have narrowed it down to Group support or SFAB. What would look better for DAS? What about for 125D or hell even 350G.

The Branch manager told me SFAB needs E6 pretty bad rn. I am really trying to avoid a DA selection I dont want.. I see SFAB as a blocker to that. Otherwise , Group life sounds great and the mission would be awesome. Plus I could do cool stuff.

Would taking an SFAB assignment hurt my chances of going DAS in a broadening to broadening back to back scenario?

DAS has been on my radar since I got in. It might suck but I want to see what it’s like. Otherwise I’d probably like to go 125D or maybe 350G if I can’t get into the pipeline due to our branch. Apparently both are really hurting and I’m told strike while the iron is hot.. but I’m not ready to commit to a 6 yr deal without truly being committed to the craft nor am I ready to sign that long of a deal yet. I want to leave all options open.
