You are going to be told when to get up, when to eat, when to shower, when to make you bed, and when to do everything else that you will be allowed to do during this period. You will most likely be told to do it in a load and somewhat rude manner by your RDC, who will also counsel you on your moral, physical and mental shortcomings. They do it in this manner because, frankly, most of the young men and women coming in have little experience outside of High School and can barely find their Ass using both hands. This goes for Navy, Army, Marine, Air Force, even the Coast Guard.
The best advice I can give you attending any boot camp is get into physical condition before you arrive, since almost everyone joining the Navy goes in on the Delayed Entry Program, you have some time to do it, and show up with the attitude that the RDC's are trying to change you from a civilian into a sailor and it's just a test to see if you can adjust. Do what your told when you told to do it and you will be fine. Every service and every year is different, but generally, "Boot Camp" is coordinated chaos. You'll probably be pushed harder than you ever have before, and certainly with far less "reason" or explanation. You'll jealously guard every moment of precious sleep (as will your shipmates)... because believe me, you won't feel like you're getting enough. The whole point is to push you to your (current) breaking point... then push that point out a bit further. No one "aces" Boot Camp; some folks handle it better than others, and some folks have issues. From my own humble experiences... anyone who tried to "outsmart" or gain the system, usually ends up attracting too much attention, and pays for it somehow. Do your best, go to sleep when they tell you to, get up when they tell you to... survive the ordeal. There's no one hardcore enough to be able to wake up earlier than you will already get up. You'll be borderline sleep deprived already. But you probably also do not want to be the person that shows to the rest of the bays why you don't want to get up and start the showers before reveille - let alone be the cause for group punishment. We got up slightly early in our bays to get the beds ready to go. But we had to be super quiet, lest we garner the attention of the TIs to come yell at us.
No one is going to care what you smell like. You're ALL going to smell horrible.
