Can you register a vehicle in Texas while overseas?

Backstory:

I arrived in Texas with Oklahoma tags and registration then immediately left on a Korea rotation. My truck has been stored on Fort Hood the entire time.

My registration will expire before I return and since I no longer live in Oklahoma I can't renew there.

Is there a way to register my vehicle online before I return from the rotation so that I can get home?

CW2 Private RallyPoint Member Sir Texas vehicle Registration requires a state inspection, if the vehicle is stored that won't be possible, and thus it can not be registered.
The good news, there is no penalty in Texas for late registration unless a citation was issued against the vehicle showing it WAS being used on a public road during the non registered period.

Depending on If you are late or not on registering. If you have never then you have to go in. Most, (and I do mean most there are the few that wont) Police officers in TX are vets or are very patriotic. If you tell them you just returned from over seas and that is the ONLY reason they pulled you over, you should be good. I was pulled over for speeding in a small local town. Have my military stickers in my window. I was like 6 over. He asked me if I was active duty. Told him no but that I was serving in the TX National Guard. Let me off with a verbal and thanked me for my service also telling me to slow down. I thanked him told him thanks for what he does and told him I would. I did and continued on to work.

CW2 Private RallyPoint Member - Not sure the South Dakota registration is the best option. If you do register yr vehicle in SD and are in fact living in TX by virtue of your reassignment here, you'll have 30 days to get yr vehicle reregistered in TX once y ou get back. While not real expensive, it is still a pop along with the inspection requirement. I am going to check with SGM Erik Marquez to see if there is some reciprocal agreement between TX & OK to let you keep yr OK registration while stationed here in TX.

wife can if she has a POA. But you can also renew a registration on-line. No need to be present.
