Vietnam not sure. I think you can pull it without the number though just have to have name and what not.Response by SSgt Gregory Guina made Sep 28 at 2014 4:03 PM2014-09-28T16:03:15-04:002014-09-28T16:03:15-04:00MSG Wade Huffman258307<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It was during the Vietnam war (around mid point) that they began putting the SSN on the 214. Prior to that, there was only the service number. There was a period of time during Vietnam where they were transitioning and SSN and Service Number were both used<br />If you are requesting copies, use the service number OR SSN whichever is applicable (can be either during the transitional period). If you have neither, they will still do their best with whatever info you give them. Dates are VERY important so try to be as accurate as possible with those.Response by MSG Wade Huffman made Sep 28 at 2014 4:13 PM2014-09-28T16:13:55-04:002014-09-28T16:13:55-04:00PO1 Private RallyPoint Member258321<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="220144" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/220144-71b-biochemistry-usamrmc-medcom">MAJ Private RallyPoint Member</a> Yes! Specifically, date of birth. Telling them June 1912 is not going to help. If the individual was in for more than one tour, then the exact entry dates and discharge dates are necessary. Even then, there may be upwards of several dozen that come up with the same dates of birth. Things like where they went through MEPS, last known military unit assignment are all useful.Response by PO1 Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 28 at 2014 4:49 PM2014-09-28T16:49:02-04:002014-09-28T16:49:02-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member258359<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You can contact your counties local veteran service officer or VFW post's service officer they can help. But prior to 1950 it was not a DD-214 it was a different type of document. And it can be done without SSN's. Seen it done to verify people Auxillary membership in the VFW.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 28 at 2014 5:41 PM2014-09-28T17:41:20-04:002014-09-28T17:41:20-04:00MSG Jay Jackson2456431<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>MAJ Dews, a lot of veterans registered their separation documents at their local court house after coming home from the war. You should be able to see the do ument if you can prove you are a relative. Then there was is the National Archives. You can google that and get a a lot of info on how to get these records. Now we have all heard of the fire at the records place. WW II was pretty hard hit, the site wil tell you by date and last name group, who was hardest hit. There are still ways to get these records if your family members records were lost in the fire. If you do not know their service number, then there is a link to WW II enlistment records on the site also. Good hunting!Response by MSG Jay Jackson made Mar 29 at 2017 10:08 AM2017-03-29T10:08:57-04:002017-03-29T10:08:57-04:00Star Patterson5464568<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have been trying to get my deceased fathers Dd214 and have had NO luck!!
