Can you go to the SFQC, pass for the training, tab, and beret, and then go back to your unit?

I am not an SF soldier but have had a few in my unit that left on selection. Once the training was done their MOS was changed and they were reassigned to the SPECOPS Command for reassignment not returned to the unit they left prior to training. This may be different for USANG/USAR soldiers or Officer branches but my enlisted soldiers were GONE.

That is extremely and highly unlikely, given that you’ve been put through a year and a half to two years of SF training. After that you are expected to be capable of functioning as a member of an SF team. Now, if all of the sudden after you graduate the Q course you have some kind of mental breakdown or something to the point where u can’t perform your duties on a team, you’d most likely be moved to somewhere within SOF. So to answer your question, no you wouldn’t be sent back to your unit. Again, the above scenario is extremely unlikely. I’m sure the SF veterans on here will be able to give you a more better response.

No. The Q course is not Ranger school. When a service member graduates from the Q-course he is re-classed to what ever MOS he passed. Unless your unit has MTOE slots for a 18 series then maybe, but not likely. If you were able to pass and earn a tab, why would you want to go back to a regular Army unit. If you are asking questions like this, you don't have a chance.

Just to add on to what others have said. The Beret is somewhat an organizational item. The flash changes based on the unit that you are in. Like I had an 18A as my BN Co when I was in the 173rd ABCT. He had his long tab and wore a Maroon Beret not a Green one.

I suppose that it could happen, but I doubt it. The military just invested a lot of money in you and they are going to get that money out of you one way or another.

NO, NO, NO if you make it all the way thru then you will be assigned an SF MOS and be retained in SOCOM until you as for release, quit, or are too hurt to be in SOCOM- then they will reclass you from an SF MOSC to a regular MOSC and assign you to a regular unit or MEDBoard you out.

Not possible,

Once you are selected (can feed into SFAS from any MOS) you would then be in the pipeline (AD) for an assignment to an SF Group. If you were in the ARNG, you would also be assigned to 19th or 20th Grp and would go back to those units and serve. I have seen ARNG NVOs and Officers get additional MOSs/Branches and serve in those branches after as they progress in rank and positions get harder to come by; but that is more the exception than the rule. So is it possible, in that case yes; but unlikely-at least for a time after you complete the Q course.

Why would you be asking this question? If you just want a tab go to sapper or ranger school; if you want a beret stick with SF and live the legend. If your confused; go Infantry, excel at that, gain experi nice and knowledge and the go the SF route so you can succeed and be vested in the process and future.

If you are currently a support guy in group and you get selected, get a control language for that AOR, and go on to graduate, sure. If you are in a FORSCOM element? No. Unless you decide to be an idiot and get that tab pulled. Then you can go and tell them how cool you could have been.
