Can you go home on Permissive TDY? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-you-go-home-on-permissive-tdy

I recently PCS'd to Fort Hood. This is my first duty station as I was prior reserves. I was initial told that I could take Permissive TDY for 10 days to return home and move my family and good down. Now I am being told that I have to request a 4 day pass to do the move? Any advice is appreciated. It's usually provided for in the remarks block of your PCS leave form with dates for travel, leave, and permissive TDY. If it was not approved before departing your previous unit, you're basically at the mercy of your new unit. Also needs to be approved by a LTC or higher.

Edit: To address original question under permissive TDY, it really doesn't matter where you go. It is intended for house hunting, but no one is checking up on you. SFC Marc W. You should be able to go and get your family during that time.

Talk to your PL and, if necessary, your 1SG and then CO. This should be an easy resolution. AR 600-8-10 and you have been told correctly in reference to permissive TDY not being authorized for this ( unless special conditions exist and are in your orders). Here is an except of paragraph 5-32.
"For house hunting (absence to hunt for a house or other dwelling incident to a PCS move CONUS or OCONUS)"

Now IMO taking a 4 day pass is not the answer. Ordinary leave and or PCS travel days (depending on wording in your orders) is the correct answer. The 10 days, however, are not "free." They will take it out of your personal leave, going into the hole if needed. Your PSG is likely trying to help conserve your personal leave by putting you on a pass. If you need the days to get this done, then take them.
