Can you dip/chew at the position of rest, in civilian clothing attire?

Whomever is in charge of the formation decides what can be done at the rest position. It is most likely going to be limited to being able to speak to the other members of the formation. All forms of tobacco are usually forbidden in a controlled setting. Thank you for your service.

Civilian attire and formations....2 things that really shouldn't be together.....with that being said, if you are in "formation" then you should abide by the same customs and courtesies as if you were in uniform.

In formation? Sure- It is up to the person in charge, A good soldier will be able to dip/chew at anytime, because YOU WILL LEARN TO SWALLOW, not spit!

Can you? Sure (on a very small technical basis) Should you? No. As a smoker, I do NOT ever pull out a smoke when given this command. And I expect all Dippers to follow suit. And if I am in charge of the formation, I sure as Hell better not see that can come out of the pocket as my pack of smokes do not come out.

At the position of rest i.would say yes. Now with that said don't start spitting its just wrong doing that in any formation. I have chewed most of my life and I will tell you I learned to swallow like a good grunt long ago... learn live it

If you gut it, and don't have a whole can in then yes. But if your gonna be obvious about it then no. It's common sense. I had a chew in while holding the squadron guidon during the CSM change of responsibility, he asked me for one before if started.
