Well since Flag Officers have the authority to design their own uniforms and they purchase every piece with their own funds, so I found this comical.
I had to laugh at the Duffle Blog humorous post - if military clearance records from assignments in 1979 and 1985 were automated then tracking down errant entries and missing aluminum canteen cups wouldn't be so difficult:-).
FYI - I helped to draft the improved Army OCIE procedures 10 years ago and am very familiar with the process.

Funny thing is, 99% of all CIFs are ran by civilians. So one cannot blame the Army for this.

$1,040,000.00 for a canteen?! Two Problems:
1.) Our defense contractors are charging the DoD way too much for equipment; and,
2.) The source is DuffleBlog.

LTC Private RallyPoint Member A "worn-out" canteen cover was my first experience like that in 1953! Like, I wore-out a canteen cover in 1 week in the field! As a PVT 1, I did not sign the Statement of Charges some pxxxk cadre was telling me to; 'sign here'!
