Can we use the GTC for a rental vehicle? My car ships from Hawaii August 12th. I report to Fort Benning September 10th, any advice?

As the APC for my BN id have to tell you contact your losing APC as different MACOMS have different guidance for their GTC PCS program. My personnel are authorized rentals as its a travel expense but I've also had a lot of issues with service members arriving from Hawaii due to their authorization and entitlements. Hope this clears things up for you.

Depends on your unit's allowances through Citi Bank. My unit can but I've heard of other units not being able to. However, even if you pay cash, credit, or debit that belongs to you...you'll be reimbursed as long as you are authorized rental.

If it is involved with a PCS movement, then the answer is yes. That being said, I am not sure about the paperwork problems involved in changing MACOMS and would consult with your sponsor when you get to the mainland.

Yes you can if you read your orders it says you can plus you are authorized cuz it's PCS mode is kinda covered like official travel, it'll just be paid out of pocket but as far as authorized you are authorized to use while on PCS mode

As others have said, ask your losing S3/APC folks. However, if they can't give you a straight answer in time, bear in mind it's often easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Worst case, you pay back the cost of the rental car after you've gotten stabilized. Best case, it's included as a travel expense and you're set. Just save the receipts. Good luck, Sergeant.

I see no reason why not; however, be aware that the billing cycle for your GTCC does not change while on PCS status. Consequently, if you have an outstanding balance on your card from the rental when the monthly cycle closes, your card will be delinquent. Your gaining unit will understand that you are waiting for travel reimbursement, but still not a great first impression to inprocess with a delinquent GTCC.

Can you? Yes! Reccomended? No! If you have your own credit card use it since you will be reimbursed and will avoid potential issues that, those of us who've been doing this Army thing for more than 3 days very well know, will happen.

I know the use of a GTCC is now mandatory for use during PCSs for Marines, I can't recall if that is DOD wide. However as to your case, a rental car is covered if it is authorized in your orders. I would absolutely ask before doing so as I don't see any reason a rental car would actually be covered. A PCS covers your actual transit between duty stations, not your daily movements once you arrive.

Transportation and Finance will be your best source of information. You might get reimbursed for some of that rental time but again those two sections will better answer your question.

I left Hawaii in March. I was not authorized to use my GTC for a rental at all. The way this new system works they only reimburse you for what is on that card plus your plane tickets. They also pay for shipping your vehicle.
