No we can not trust China not to engage in cybertheft of trade secrets and intellectual property SPC Andrew Griffin.
They have demonstrated time again and again that they are untrustworthy in terms of economic espionage.
[update] Until the Spratly Island dispute is resolved to international satisfaction especially for those nations in the region I expect we will be dealing with China aggressively attempting to penetrate our defenses and cyber-security on many fronts.

Hell, we recently got "outed" for spying on our allies, why would they stop? It's a nature of the beast.

Sgt Spencer Sikder - this particular question is focused on Trade secrets not government secrets. Yes we and our allies monitor each other regularly - the Obama administration was outed for tapping into Chancellor Merkel's phone conversations and other world leaders - is that what you are referring to?
To the best of my knowledge the only countries we have engaged in trade secret espionage were Germany and Japan up to and through WWII:-) American business certainly tried to gain secrets from Germany and Japan later:-)
We certainly are not engaging in corporate trade secret stealing from China, North Korea, Iran, etc.

LTC Stephen F. - Correct Sir. Although the outing was on government secrets, countries like China and Russia doesn't seem to distinguish between trade and government differently.

Sgt Spencer Sikder - by the way I modified my initial response to the discussion based on the points you raised to make it clear that the we should distrust China about economic espionage issues.

No. As a nation we would be stupid to trust anyone. Everyone spies on everyone even allies.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, no way in hell, not in a million years... should I continue? How much of their annual defense budget is actually spent on cyber attack? And has the world forgotten, the US is China's primary enemy??? Cyber theft is one of their specialties - have you seen their reverse engineering capabilities? China will steal anything from anyone and reverse engineer it to make it better. How much easier will it be to just take the intelligence off of it?
