Whether or not if your family can come with you depends on the location and i'm assuming you're going to NSA-Bahrain?
http://www.cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnreurafswa/installations/nsa_bahrain/about/Sponorship.html this site should have your answer about family - I see a family readiness group, which would lead me to think you could bring your family, but you should read through that site or potentially contact the base/command sponsor for up to date information.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 23 at 2016 2:15 PM2016-02-23T14:15:16-05:002016-02-23T14:15:16-05:00SCPO Jason McLaughlin1324972

I will assume that you are referring to FDNF (Forward Deployed Naval Forces) ships. They are Naval ships homebased outside the United States (I don't think the ships out of Pearl Harbor are considered FDNF). I believe there are two bases Sasebo, Japan and Rota, Spain. My understanding is that they are accompanied tours and maintenance is completed on station.Response by SCPO Jason McLaughlin made Feb 23 at 2016 2:18 PM2016-02-23T14:18:46-05:002016-02-23T14:18:46-05:00SCPO Private RallyPoint Member1325529

Seeing as you posted this in the Bahrain group I assume you are going to one of the PC's or Minesweepers stationed there. In that case you would be on a rotational crew, switching between a ship in the U.S. and one in Bahrain periodically ( I think it's yearly).

This is different form the ships in Spain or Japan where you are a permanent crew.Response by SCPO Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 23 at 2016 4:55 PM2016-02-23T16:55:15-05:002016-02-23T16:55:15-05:00PO1 Rick Serviss1326976

Forward Deployed I think are homeported in the US but permanently operate outside of the US.Response by PO1 Rick Serviss made Feb 24 at 2016 4:39 AM2016-02-24T04:39:55-05:002016-02-24T04:39:55-05:00LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow1327812

There are LCS that are forward deployed and rotate crews, similar to the way boomers do it. In our helicopter squadron stationed on the carrier, we were deployed on the carrier, but sometimes we had one or two helos on a det on a ship closer to the coast in the Persian Gulf and considered those crews "forward deployed".Response by PO1 Jason Bishop made Feb 25 at 2016 2:15 PM2016-02-25T14:15:05-05:002016-02-25T14:15:05-05:00AB Paloma Williams8710511

Forward deployment has been a common strategy for many nations, particularly those with global military commitments or security interests. It has both advantages and challenges. While it can enhance readiness and response capabilities, it can also entail logistical challenges and diplomatic considerations, especially if troops are stationed in foreign territories.

Miss Paloma, https://www.n2dance.com.au/tapfit/
