Can my assignment be changed (if I request) since I was promoted?

Hello long story short. Was put on assignment to korea in Jan this year as a SPC. Report date is Dec. Got my stripes last month. Is it possible to change my assignment assuming they put me in a 10 slot? Thanks.

Talk to your community manager. They would be the ones to tell you officially what they will do.

As someone who dealt with assignments to Korea frequently, that WILL NOT stop your assignment to Korea. What it can do is get you a more career enhancing job. Be sure to communicate with your sponsor and make them aware of your promotion. There were a lot of my Soldiers that showed and I did not know they were promoted. I was then forced to keep them in a SPC job because I had planned and needed them there at the time. I eventually moved them, but I could have fix things with better communication up front from the NCO.

Contact your Branch Manager for your new grade, they’ll probably be able to have you projected to an E5 slot versus the 10 level...Good Luck to you...

Possible? Yes. Potentially? Doubt it! Get with your branch manager ASAP and see what s/he has you projected for. Most likely they’ll change your assigned unit but not PCS. But you’ll not know unless you communicate.

You will not change your orders to Korea, contact Branch update your grade and they should reassign you within Korea. Thank you for your service.

Your promotion is not going to change the assignment. You do however need to contact your sponsor and make them aware of the grade change, otherwise you will arrive there and be slotted into a SPC slot. Does not mean a whole lot, except paperwork on the gaining units part to shift you into a Sgt slow and then put another request for a SPC. Saves them headaches, paperwork and time.

As already mentioned, it wont effect your assignment unless you were on pinpoint orders. Usually thats only CSMs, specific MOSs short there, command, and key developmental billets.

SGT if you send me an email ( middle initial L) I will reply with your Branch Managers POC. When a soldier promotes while on assignment HRC should be contacted to determine if the assignment can support the soldier at the current rank.
