Have you asked your doctor what the steps are to get approval from your insurance company? Are you trying to get it through the VA or are you asking for financial help from us? Your question is pretty broad.

CPL Daryl Smith, short answer is 'yes', IF your injury is related to your military service. If not, then as SSG Laurie Mullen stated, you'll have to go though your doctor if you're looking to get reimbursement for it as a "medical device" related to an injury/illness (which is what the VA will do as well).

You'll have to provide much more information that what you already provided. Has the VA designated you as a 50%+ disabled veteran OR were rated lower, but there is a link to an illness/injury that was rated? If so, then the process is straightforward - just go to your VA doc and ask him to start the process for a durable medical device (the scooter).

If not, then the VA can provide a scooter as long as the illness/injury is related to your military service - but you'll have to go though the disability Compensation and Pension process to have it added (this will likely be a lengthy process if you're not familiar with it).

If the illness/injury you are suffering from is not related to your military service, then start the discussion with your civilian doctor. There may be programs they are aware of that you could be eligible for.

Additionally do a few internet searches to see if there are programs out there you are available for.
