Can I get a surgery to fix my acid reflux at the VA without “Line of Duty” papers?

While deployed the doctor told me I would need a surgery to fix my acid reflux. The unit wanted to give me LOD paperwork but it may not be approved. I’m not looking for any money but I’d still like to just get fixed. So can I get the surgery at the VA without LOD paperwork?

I think it will depend what your overall rating is. certain disability rating levels come with certain "privileges" so to speak. I would suggest talking to the Patient Advocate or someone in patient registration

How long have you been out?

Did you get any paperwork from the army Dr that wanted you to have the surgery? Also if you’re still in and an army dr wants you to have a surgery he should have referred you to a specialist. Are you active duty? SPC (Join to see)

I just looked at your profile and you’re national guard, are you deployed? If so you’ll need to get the dr referral if you want to get it done before you’re released from active duty and get it done while you’re still on active orders. Also is the dr you saw a military dr or civilian and if he’s civilian was it through military coverage. If you don’t get it done while you’re activated if you are in fact active right now then you’ll still need the documentation from the military dr to get it handled through the VA. Also depending on if you’re on a combat deployment you have 2 years of coverage from the VA when you get home from deployment. Unless things have changed. So it kind of depends what your status is right now.

Negative I’m National Guard and I have copies of his notes and diagnosis. He didn’t refer me to a specialist though.SGT Mark Estes
