Can I close out a 4856 done by another NCO?

I would recommend doing an inital counseling which states you now being the Soldiers first line, and then close it out. Or just start fresh with the Soldier with your own counseling forms.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member If you inherited a counseling with corrective actions from an NCO that's moved on, I would say yes. As WO1 Private RallyPoint Member says, pick them up with an initial. I applaud you for cleaning up the loose ends and counseling.

With you as an incoming NCO to the counseled person you should review that persons file and as part of your incoming initial counseling to the person, assume ownership of it OR simply close it out with and initialing of it, note that you are assuming responsibility and transfer the action plan to the new counseling you will do. This way everything is fresh and the SM knows there is not break in what is expected of them.
