Can I cancel my reserves contract and extend on AD? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-cancel-my-reserves-contract-and-extend-on-ad

I currently have health issues going on with my heart but don’t have a clear diagnosis. Im getting tests done and am suppose to see a specialist, it takes forever to get appointments in order to speed up the process. I signed a three year reserves contract and am suppose to reclass to 68P. My ETS date is coming up and I don't want to get out without a proper diagnosis or treatment plan. My recruiter did say I couldn’t be on a temporary profile within 15 days of my ETS. What would happen if I am? Does anyone know if it is possible to cancel my reserves contract and extend on AD to figure out my health issues Sun, 07 Aug 2022 17:29:05 -0400 Can I cancel my reserves contract and extend on AD? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-cancel-my-reserves-contract-and-extend-on-ad

I currently have health issues going on with my heart but don’t have a clear diagnosis. Also, you shouldn't be talking to a recruiter. Maybe your terminology is mixed up. You should have talked to a Reserve Component Career Counselor who deals specifically with transitioning Active Duty to Reserve Component. If you're dealing with a Recruiter of any type while you're on Active Duty, they are not a reliable source of information.

If you have signed a contract with your RCCC you can still stay Active Duty. Just be an adult and tell them what you are doing. They have to cancel your contract in order for you to stay active. They spend about 3-4 hours working an RCCC contract these days, so you should do them the courtesy of explaining that you are canceling.

You should never leave Active Duty if you have medical issues. There are extensions just for receiving treatment. If you qualify for a medical retirement, and cardiac issues usually do, you need to be in active duty in order to be medically retired, you can't do it once you ETS.

Also, FYI, you're not going to ETS and go straight to 68P training. The RC has two years to send you to school. If you are close to ETS you're probably going to miss your next paycheck so plan for that. You'll get the back pay, but most likely you've already been removed from the payroll.
