Can I as a prior service marine go back to basic for the army or navy?

Can you or will you? Typically Marines don't have to go through basic when switching to other branches.

Did you check with a recruiter, or is this a general question? Check with a recruiter first, than go from there.

When I went to basic in 198#$%. We had a prior SVC Marine with us.. I think it was a matter of break in service time.

As a prior service Marine, you do not have to go back through any other services basic training. I transitioned over from the Marines and that, along with all of my leadership courses (CPL and SGT's Courses) counted. If you have a break in service for a longer period of time, that may come into play. Contact a recruiter, they'll have better information.

Yes you can CPL. I just finished my 11B OSUT about 3 weeks ago and we had 2 prior service Marines in my platoon. One was Ordnance and the other was a Combat Engineer who spent 5 and 6 years in the Corps respectively. The Army let them keep their ranks (E-5) and integrated them fully into our platoon as 18X Candidates (Special Forces Soldiers have to be Infantry qualified, it’s part of the pipeline.)So if you go Army not only will you get the training to re-class your MOS you should also get to keep your rank/pay grade that you had in the Corps.

I know that when I got out of the Marines in 91 as an 0311. I joined the Army National Guard in 96 and did not have to go back to Basic, just MOS school(95B-Military Police)

If you have been out of IRR for more than 3 years you WILL attend basic for the Army. No ifs ands or butts

Unless you have been out for quite some time, I do not think you have to go to basic for the army just maybe reclass into and MOS unless you are going infantry.
