Can anything be done to personnel who falsely claim PTSD, story changed 2-3 times was investigated and found nothing yet recieved med ret?

Member was active duty, deployed stated he was involved in combat, changed to saw combat, changed again to witnessed people dying and changed again. Med appointed him to Wounded Warrior Prog, docs stated they didn't think it was PTSD, yet wouldn't state it "officially". He's scamming money and benefits from VA now when true PTSD victims are waiting for aid.

This is an excellent question. PTSD is hard for the VA to prove or disprove. If the vet is changing his story on a regular basis, I would think that some kind of investigation could be looked into for validity of the claim.

My first question is did he earn his CIB? Where was he deployed? Their is noway anyone tested after 2009 can fake having PTSD.A human does not even test you and they throw things at you that make no sence I.E.Cards Black and white.I forgot the name of the scale and I'm not proud to say I scored a 44.Anyone that scores under 40 gets hospitalized permanently and the test cost 9K.look up the fake Minnesota PTSD test.I had to put a puzzle togeather a 13 year old kid could do and I was on a timer.The girl giving me the test was hot and I thought she would give me the answer because I was so embarrassed I could not figure it out. I was declined and she said ring the bell.20 seconeds "Shame" TBI

Keep in mind I had NO clue I was taking a PTSD test and some things came out in the test when I was deployed in Iraq and my X cheated on me and all of this is done by a computer.in court 98% smiscible.

Their is no way you can lie or cheat.This test is nothing like you took in school.

If he's not telling the truth he willlnever get SSI. Believe it or not the judges are trying this very well may even lied to me and I told her I never in my life was an alcoholic but I did admit overdosing I narcotics.She then asked if it was street or RX and I told the truth RX and was very embarrassed.then she asked me a question about war and I claimed up.That was after she asked how much could I lift and I told her 210.

Stolen valor and he will serve time in jail.

I got inked under my arm because I. RED to remind myself the real issue.I call PTSD reality..

Seems to me your investigation should be directed towards the doctors who, if your claims are accurate, are knowingly signing off on false PTSD claims . They are the ones the system relies on to sort out the real from the fraud. Otherwise, why have med boards at all? So to me, those doctors are as guilty of benefit fraud as the servicemember. If they truly believe, in their professional medical opinion, that this guy does not have PTSD, yet signed off on it anyway, that's fraud.

OTOH, if it is their medical opinion that the guy may well have it, but they aren't sure, then I have no problem with them either saying more testing is needed, or giving the benefit of the doubt to the veteran. I'd rather have a doctor who isn't sure err on the side of the vet. But if they really are committing fraud as you say, you should be reporting them and getting them disciplined. They are as guilty of fraud as anyone

The problem as I see it is that you're putting your subjective opinion up against professional ones. Now, you might be right -- not everyone that wears the uniform is a stellar individual, for sure. Still, until you catch the docs in malfeasance, you sort of have to accept their diagnosis.

Can PTSD cause or the meds used to treat it cause confusion? I know people can get PTSD from a bad traffic accident so being o the receiving end of some Mortars and seeing someone get hurt may have been enough.

When claiming PTSD from the VA two things must happen they check your records. If you have a CAB, CIB, Purple Heart, a V device (Valor) medal, deployed to a combat theater or some traumatic event. If any of those are in there a mental exam for PTSD will be given if person has PTSD and is because of their deployment.

IF you have documentation this mis-lead information, and not just hear-say, then you can possible see if it can be investigated.

Sometimes those who witness such things can have a few things happen to them. At first they can remember nothing, but as time progresses their stories can change because of memories that were "locked" within their mind were able to be remembered again. With this person changing their story, it could be something similiar to this.

I would re-investigate, have proper documentation have the person be re-evaluated based on medical and psychological aspects to prove his PTSD condition.

PTSD is not exclusively related to combat as some of the comments here seem to suggest.

Civilians who never served can have PTSD.

I have PTSD from MST and the first time I filed they were really cruel to me at the VA and denied my claim. It took me almost 10 years to refuel out of fear of being reject again. If you want to be mad be mad that my rating for MST is low because I didn't give up on my recovery.

From all the vets I've spoken to. Obviously they had a mental problem (the faker) and PTSD isn't a blood test- it's a mind thing. They tell me I have PTSD just from seeing my buddy negligent discharge a 45 into his head. Maybe I do maybe I don't. I know vets that do and if one is willingly playing that card for sympathy or money then they take away from those who actually suffer. My dad was navy corpsman 68-69 1st marines- does he have PTSD? Probably so. Never got treated though.
