My fear is that Donal will do exactly that no matter what. he is used to doing things his way and will not like to be held up by people he can't control nor fire. Republican or Democrat he will not get along nicely with them and the result will be worse than what we have now....

By disowning Trump and failing to support his campaign should he win the nomination, the RNC plays directly into Trump's hand. He is, at heart, a third party candidate. Running in the primaries as a Republican will have given him a bully pulpit during the year long runup to the convention with all of the media attention and publicity he would never have received as an independent. If he becomes the Republican nominee he qualifies for all of the perks an establishment candidates enjoys including , especially, equal air time. If he then gets disowned he's free to campaign against the despicable, backstabbing, insensitive to the will of the people Republican establishment. He can also run against the evil Democrat candidate. Gee, just like a third party candidate; a position he will have been forced into against his will, poor guy. There he will be, surrounded on all sides by the establishment, and able to fire willy-nilly in all directions. Something he's really good at.

What more could he ask?

Well, he could win. If the divorce from the RNC sticks and the party opposes him in office his Presidential powers could be severely constrained. Appointments would be blocked, delayed and/or defeated. With at least parts of both parties in Congress in opposition no veto would ever be supported and most, if not all, will be overturned. His next step could be to pick and choose which legislation and to implement and use executive orders to emplace his own initiatives. And then the Supreme Court gets involved. The government freezes and we end up with the prince of constitutional crises.

No problemo.

Don't worry, the states in play this year have far more GOP seats in defense than Democrats, and many of those are in so-called purple states which the GOP cannot hold with the current extremism in the GOP presidential candidates.

The senate goes back to the Democrats (a very good thing).

This really gets exciting with the GOP trying to block Obama's court nominee. A Democratic senate would not play nice with a GOP president on that vacancy, and a Democratic president with a Democratic senate will get someone far more liberal than you conservatives will like, and far more liberal than what Obama will nominate before the GOP senate.

Mitch is being REALLY stupid on this.

CPT Jack Durish if Trump earning the nomination destroys one of the two major parties, I am all for it. Only because (and I have been very vocal about this) I believe that there is no practical difference between the DNC and the RNC. Both are bloated dead carcasses in the stagnant bog that is Washington DC. The best thing that could happen to this nation is for both parties to be recognized for disease that they are, and the people banding together to get rid of them. Let's have politics based on ideals. I for one would rather vote for a candidate that I actually believe in rather than vote for a candidate based on the party that they represent.
