Can an Army Reserve unit force soldiers to come in on weekdays that are not on the battle assembly schedule (without official orders)?

The only document the unit is using is a excel spreadsheet and they're calling it orders.

Officially. No. If you're conducting Army business, you need to be on orders or at Drill. We both know this.

... That said. There's been a couple of these questions lately. The real question is, is this something that could have been done at BA, but wasn't because the Commander didn't want to keep everyone until midnight?

Is this something for your career, that you need done?

Many times in the Reserves it's better to work on your own time, theoretically unpaid, then deal with the hassles of doing it the... Right way.

Negative, not without some sort of documentation in place to get you paid. As such, you would either have to be on your BTA weekend, on official orders (with an actual orders #), or on RST status. The one loophole is that you can come into your Reserve Center and work with RMA funds, which just needs a 1380 filled out and processed for pay. But, simply being told that your name is on a spreadsheet and that spreadsheet is being used as orders is a NO GO and they can go kick bricks.

It isnt right but i cant say some of my buddies havent complained of the same. Usually its because something didnt get passed down the chain and needs dealt with before the next drill date.
