Can a unit penalize you for not being at a grocery or pharmacy while on a no work slip?

No work slip came from a civillian ER. Slip lasted 5 days and found out soldier was at an antique store.
Can/ is it allowed for the unit to penalize the soldier?

Well....here is some things I can see: why didn't the Soldier get that converted to a military quarters slip? Was the no work slip due to illness? If so, did the slip specifically say no work and stay in room? Or was there no specifics mentioned about quarters? Personally, there sounds like too much legal questions need to be answered.

I don't know what the go / no-go is as far as the Army goes, but a SM has to eat and get their Meds.

I have never seen a unit accept a quarters slip that was not evaluated by the PA or unit Doc. If it is so severe that they are on total bed rest and can’t get to the Aid station that is remedied by the Commanders approval until the Soldier can be re-evaluated. None the less, Soldier should not be site seeing and window shopping. A Soldier is always subject to UCMJ, so this Soldier in my opinion should be reviewed for sone form of discipline. IG oar ace is not bliss.

The availability of any serviceman is a readiness consideration. The military medical system is specifically tasked with considering a member's fitness for duty and coordinating decisions and recommendations with a patient's command. The patient must present any degradation of their ability to their unit where the Command authorities will determine whether the civilian slip will be accepted or the individual will be referred to military medical for evaluation. Until the unit makes the decision, the serviceman is AWOL.

Common sense should tell the SM that a civilian Doc from a Civilian Hospital can't dictate what the military does. Get emergency medical treatment as needed but follow-up with the Military PCP. It is simple to just go to Military Medical after emergency care is done to get the appropriate chit done for bed rest. Getting caught antiquing is a bad look and hard not to look like you are being shady

I do not see how that could be thought of as work, unless maybe he in some sort of CA unit that deal with antiquities. Looks as if he was just enjoying a stress-free few days.
