Can a unit make you go to JRTC/NTC if you will be getting back less than a week before you start clearing? If not, where in writing is it?

SFC Private RallyPoint Member they can, but most units I have been in didn't mess with you less than 30 days out (protocol-unwritten). I would talk to the NCO support channel and see if they can square you away then the COC if that doesn't work. Good luck.

I would say no. Because you are allotted a certain amount of time to clear. They have to give you those days allotted for you to clear. You should say something if you haven't already. I hate to sound like a barracks lawyer but look into how many days your entitled for clearing. I think it's 10 or 14 not sure though.

Look in AR 600-8-101 Chapter 3. Pay close attention to 3-5 (a)5. Not sure if this will help you or not in regards to regulations, but you never know. Also, you can always check with the Out-Processing office at Drum to get the definitive answer.

I do know if you're married then you are allotted 10 days to clear a post and if you are single you are allotted 5 days to clear. I don't know if that gives you any insight but good luck

Its local policy, not regulatory guidance.
The AR states when you have to report to post clearing.. but not number of days to clear. So check with post, and unit policy...as that is what drives time to clear the unit and post. Pay attention to the policy wording......if it uses world like "Should have 10 days provided" that is not as directive guidance as "Will be given 10 days"

Hell Yes they can. My last unit at Fort Bragg (Company B 1st Battalion 505th PIR) sent me to NTC 12 days after my daughter died, and then to the field for 61 days to guard ammo after I had sustained a spinal injury, and then to JRTC while tey held my PCS Orders until I returned from JRTC which gave me 8 days to clear, counting the weekend, and move my DUAL MILITARY family to Fort Benning. I loved the 82d AIRBORNE (Company B, 3rd Battalion 504th PIR, Best Battalion ever at Fort Bragg). But after being in 1st Kitty, I was glad to see one thing....1-505 in my rear view mirror.

In my experience it's been a judgement call on behalf of the chain of command and in my own opinion if said person is a leader and the unit needs you in order to help the units mission then yes however it doesn't make it right the service member would just even more stressed out no matter ets or pcs

Usually, 90 days out one is exempt from duty, clears their hand receipts, and takes proactive steps prior to their clearing dates. Local regulations with cover how many working days you have to clear. I cleared Fort Riley in 6 hours. Call the activities you know you'll have to clear well ahead of time. This way you can set up your appointments prior to getting your clearing papers. Proactive over reactive my friend. Have fun at training!

If I had it to do all over again, with my first unit, I'd go to the field just to have one last play date with the homies. Those were the good ol days.

Common sense say's no, but Technically your unit can. IAW AR 600-8-101 chapter 3 (3-5) JUL 18, 2003 subparagraph 3. " Soldiers who will PCS or transition will report to the "PROC CS" NLT 14 Duty days prior. The ten days is the installation policy. Hopefully this answer you're questions. 11BP PSG
