Can a soldier be punished by being placed on CQ?

SSG Private RallyPoint Member Aren’t Charge of Quarters Duty Assignments supposed to be made from a DA 6, aka Duty Roster? My duty rosters would always withstand close scrutiny for equality of duty assignments.

The entries on my duty rosters were always in pencil, until the duty had been performed! Then that entry was overwritten in ink!

Yes.
It's tough to come up with a plan for 14 to 60 days of extra duty without taking someone else's place on the DA-6 for CQ, or taking the beginning of everyone's shift through 2000 every day..
All in all, CQ is better than digging fighting positions and filling them in every day.

Perfect punishment for minor infractions. Give someone CQ duty at say the 0200-0300 range. Some discomfort, some responsibility, some quiet time to reflect on what the soldier did and what they plan to do to correct themselves so it doesn’t happen again.

Yes. Nearly anything can be a corrective training. There is no such thing as punishment officially in the Army anymore.

A slight criticism - NCO's cannot give punishments, they assign corrective training. Now to your question - the answer is yes, they can.

Here’s my two questions: Is the corrective action fitting to the infraction that was created? If not, what is the value of putting said soldier on CQ?

If the soldier has been late for some sort of accountability formation after a certain amount of warnings, sure just remember that the First line leader has the duty to follow up to ensure that corrective action is being done to standard.

When in Germany our company only had 5 Buck Sgts, 2 SSG's that lived in the barracks and 4 SSG's that were married and lived off post. 2 SFC's who lived off post and the First Sgt and the BSG. So all the privates E2 & E3's were assigned duty as runners and the CQ was a Spc 4 or a Sgt E5. At least once a month you got the duty. You worked your regular job that day and went on duty at 1700 until 0700. Then you had the day off. This was not a punishment, a punishment was painting the rocks outside the company headquarters or painting the latrine. I painted the damn latrine twice the first year I was there. Both times were the choice of a AR15 or the 1st sgt. punishment.

The soldier swapped his subordinate with another in agreement that the shift would be covered. However, posted on the da-6 it states all changes need to go through PSG.

Up to E4 we did Guard duty, in A school we did a week or two of mess duty, they didn’t use civilians back then. It sucked, cook has to be the worst job in the military, the hours suck ass.

what did the sm do to be placed on CQ, were there other options like art 15, need some history hear otherwise it is an open window not knowing what infraction was committed
