I was told by numerous people that now that I am in the Army I can be authorized to wear a Combat patch due to the commanding officer of the war was an Army General. Not to sure about this but how would I go about checking into this? Although all assets were attached to centcom, your parent service was still the navy, and with very few exceptions, they do NOT issue combat patches. You get your combat patch from units you deployed with, or served with in theater. And the "served with" has strings attached. But basically, if you were assigned to an Army unit during the war, and that unit's commander was the guy who gave you orders and wrote your evaluations, you earned a combat patch. In many cases, if you were "OPCON" to an Army unit, you can also receive a combat patch. In all cases, the award is published in orders. If you don't have orders from an Army unit awarding you a combat patch, you can't wear one. But look at the bright side. We are still at war, and you will have many opportunities to start your collection. At that time the Army had the "Green to Gold program" for OCS. I could have joined that program, but I want to see how I could soldier first and maybe join the Officer ranks later. But, honestly, being enlisted was the meat and potatoes that actually get things done and training young soldiers. Now I have my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management. Before I came in the regular Army, I made decisions on my small business as a owner and it was not easy nor was it that hard. But when your an officer in the military, prepare for meetings and briefings out the waldzoo! The Navy does not have any unit patches to wear that will transfer over to the Army. The Marines do. CW4 Don Kite Sat, 12 Sep 2015 17:32:52 -0400 2015-09-12T17:32:52-04:00 2015-08-28T12:28:39-04:00
