Can a non-promotable SSG attend SLC?

Im a 14 year SSG and I am coming up on 2years TIG. Im trying to catch up to my former peers, so I called my branch schools manager to get a date. I got the date and class reservation email now, but some people I have talked to are saying I can only attend SLC if I am promotable. Is this true? Everything seemed right while talking to the schools manager.

I did- but I was on wait status. Also, a reserve soldier. That was in 2017 though.

If the schools manager gave you a date already, I wouldn’t worry about what others have to say. Their experience is not your experience as you can see. You don’t have to be promotable to attend. It may be harder to get a date but you don’t have to be promotable. You can’t pin on E7 without SLC, so this will put you ahead of some of your peers upon your selection to SFC. Yes you, who attends SLC is up to your schools branch. Priority is everyone who is promotable first. Right now most lists have promotables sitting on a list up to 2 years waiting for a class seat, so those MOSs aren't slotting non promotables.
Use this experience as an example of why you always go to the source for the information as opposed to listening to your peers.

You have a reservation. There is nothing to worry about.
If the reservation gets cancelled, you have something to worry about.

I’m trying to get a slot for alc and am promotable. Just got denied for the second time. If you have a reservation I would cross your fingers and get ready for school!

I attended SLC in August 2018. There were non-promotable students there including two in my class of 16. Don’t worry about what other people are saying. Good luck in the course!

I went to SLC in October 2018 with only 1 year TIG...It can be done....you got the Reservation email...aka Golden Ticket... be ready for your APFT and writing some essays that's what I did at SLC at Gordon. PS get a rental or bring your own car.

Yes you can go to SLC. As a matter of fact you should be going to get you ready for the promotion board for E-7. The same thing happened to me and I was passed over for not having SLC completed since others did. Your unit should be pushing you to school or you will be passed over for other Soldiers who have it completed. get your CSM involved in your career path.
