LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A Kansas judge granted a request Wednesday to formally change the name of the soldier convicted of leaking classified documents to WikiLeaks from Bradley Edward Manning to Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.

The former intelligence analyst is serving a 35-year prison sentence for passing classified U.S. government information to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks. Manning is serving the sentence at the Army prison on Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

Leavenworth County District Judge David King said he'd allow the name change during a court hearing that lasted about a minute. Manning didn't attend the hearing but issued a statement saying it was "an exciting day."

Couldn't believe they allowed this, but now it fits his insanity defense- convenient huh? Used to be that traitors who gave away or worse yet sold classified intel were killed during a time of war. Now we let them change sex? Terrible.....

Don't be surprised if there is a loophole somewhere that says that, since he is now Chelsea Elizabeth Manning and not Bradley Edward Manning, he gets to go free; they have the wrong person.

The sad part is that whatever emotional distress caused what he did as a man, he still betrayed his country. He betrayed us as who he was, regardless of gender.

I don't care but hope he gets a beating everyday and suffers every single day of his sentence. It makes me smile that this traitor thought his release of secrets would shake the US to its core but really only made a tiny blimp on the radar. He will lose a big chunk of his life in one of the worst prisons in the states. The worst part of this is he made Soldiers not trust Soldiers and destroyed big parts of collaboration.

Thought once you was in prison you automatically become a woman, LOL. Will never forgive whats his/her name for his/her acts. Lives were at stake. Its sickening that they would put him in for the Noble Peace Prize, but then again that award has becoming nothing but a joke anymore.

Manning is a traitor, to be sure. We don't need to be calling her "IT". It's not about who she is, it's about who WE are.

And if you'll call a transgender traitor "IT", how do I know you won't call my law-abiding friend "IT" when you find out she's transgender??

Who paid for Bradley Edward Manning's gender change from being a male to being changed to a female?
If the U.S. taxpayers did, someone in the government or court system needs to brought to task and Bradley Edward Manning needs to reimburse the U.S. Government.
