SGT Chris White 1055941 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am a Cold War Veteran and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. I am trying to form a Veterans Committee within our chapter to identify and honor the veterans in our group, and to perform community service to benefit veterans in our community. We are looking at food and clothing drives, fundraisers, etc. Personally, I am partial to helping homeless and unemployed veterans, as well as suicide prevention. <br /><br />My dilemma is what organization(s) should we target to assist? I am a little out of the loop these days. I am asking for suggestions on groups worthy of our efforts, who actually provide the help to veterans they advertise. 22 Until None is one that comes to mind for me. I am apprehensive about sending any money to the VA, as I feel they are failing our brothers and sisters. I won’t mention any other group names on here, but I have heard there are some VERY well-known veterans groups that are not as helpful as they portray to the causes they promote.<br /><br />I am hoping to get input from those of you more knowledgeable on the subject to point us in the right direction. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I say plug into what the VA has available to include homelessness. I would keep the budget in house for chance meetings with veterans who need help now. You can be like the scouts looking for needy veterans as many organizations wait for the veterans to come to them.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Check with your Veteran&#39;s Advisory Council or committee.<br />I personally know about how the only help some large Veterans groups. Care less about Veteran&#39;s and only care about things/programs that makes them and their Officers look better on the district, state or national level.
