I don't think we need bigger government or even more government involvement in private business. If people want to work more, they should be rewarded for it. Why should the government take away the benefits of those who wish to work more?

If the government makes it harder for companies to hire people in a way that is cost effective for the business, then the companies aren't going to just pay more to their employees. They will instead just outsource even more jobs to overseas locations. We don't want our entire country to end up bankrupt like Detroit.

It sounds like long shifts, while challenging, worked out well for you. You were able to increase your pay form 50k to 100k through your hard work. Under Bernie's plan, your job probably would have just been taken offshore.Response by LTC Yinon Weiss made Oct 24 at 2015 5:38 PM2015-10-24T17:38:25-04:002015-10-24T17:38:25-04:00SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member1063596

Here is the problem, how is he going to do it? With more laws. What we need is for government to get out of "making jobs". I have not had a job since high school where that mattered since I have always been on salary and did not get any extra or any less pay because I worked over 40 hours. That being said, I don't think it is the government's job to mandate things like this. Some companies could not function without overtime availability. After leaving active duty in 1996, I started working as a manager for Hertz Corporation at Chicago O'Hare. Due to the nature of travel, we were open 365/24/7. The hourly employers were scheduled for 8 hours per shift. However, in cases of flight delays, we needed people to stay longer and indeed had a clause in the union CBA that allowed us to mandate that employees stay for up to 4 more hours. If we could not offer or mandate overtime, the business would have failed when the flights would come in at 0100. It also would not have made sense to hire more employees to cover overtime because we did not need that extra staffing all the time. Overtime gave us the flexibility. Also, my brother works a lot of overtime for his job. If he could not do that, his family would suffer financially. Overall, this sounds great like many of Sanders' other ideas but there are consequences to all of them. I think this would have a detrimental impact on businesses and also on the workers who depend on overtime.Response by COL Jon Thompson made Oct 25 at 2015 5:52 PM2015-10-25T17:52:01-04:002015-10-25T17:52:01-04:00PO3 Private RallyPoint Member1066276

? huh ?
