Awards given for Rank, not performance https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/awards-given-for-rank-not-performance

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just my previous unit? Every Officer gets a BSM's for EOT, everyone else gets ARCOM's. No matter what the situation.

Doesn't matter if your a PFC and went on patrol every single day and were engaged daily, you get an ARCOM. If you were the 2LT Battle Captain who sat in the TOC for a "shift" you would get a BSM.

Same can be said about ETS/PCS awards. Officers always get MSM's, Enlisted (Except 1SG and SGM of course) get ARCOM's.

I once asked why it was like this, and was told "That's just the way it has always been". Is "That's just the way it has always been" an excuse to continue this discriminatory practice?

I completely understand that certain officers and SNCO have a great deal of responsibilities, (PSG's, CO's, 1SG, SGM etc...) and deserve it, but I was told multiple times there is never a reason to give a lower enlisted a BSM, because they don't meet the "qualifications" (Lower Enlisted/ NCO's/ Jr. NCO's).

I have even heard leaders speaking among each other about recommending soldiers/NCO's for award's and giving each other remarks similar to "He doesn't have enough rank for that, it will be down graded."

Does anyone believe this is right?
