In fact the only enlisted who are promoted off promotion points are E4 to E5 and E5 to E6. After that there is no such thing as promotion points Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 13 at 2021 11:44 AM 2021-02-13T11:44:37-05:00 2021-02-13T11:44:37-05:00 CPT Private RallyPoint Member 6743386 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>We promote very differently from enlisted. We all have a centralized board by mos. The best way to explain it is by using myself. When I was a 2LT I was pretty much automatically promoted to 1LT. It is really based off the needs of the Army and slots. As long as you don&#39;t have anything negative on your record you will get promoted. CPT is pretty much the same way. It is in the high 90s percent to get promoted. The first rank that is really competitive is MAJ. They have a selection rate of about 60 to 70 percent. The board looks at your evaluations and your Officer Record Brief. If the Army only needs the 70 percent of the officers in the infantry that are up for promotion then they will promote the top 70 percent. This means you have to perform better than your peers. The other 30 percent get passed over. They will try again the next year but if they don&#39;t promote then they are separated from the Army. As an infantry officer I am expected to have some schools like Ranger and have had a &quot; Most Qualified&quot; evaluation report while in Command. After that it is up to the board.
