At what point in the United States will political pressure rename or completely abandon Columbus Day?

We are a very divided nation when it comes to Columbus Day and its namesake Christopher Columbus. Do you see a time when that holiday is no more in America? Why or why not? And if so, when?

Depends how soon they stop teaching about him. We have a street on Ft Bliss, JEB Stuart that I have never been in a vehicle with anyone that knows who that is and thus no push to change the street name.

It surprises me that Columbus Day is still observed. He was among the most lost individuals in history for he thought he wan in India VS actually being in the Bahamas on his first trip. I think either Leif Erickson Day should be observed or no day at all.

He’s a historical figure, who primarily was responsible for reintroducing the “New World” to Europe. But he didn’t discover it. It was probably the Vikings.
His initial landing was in Hispaniola where there was a nation of 245,000 natives called the Taino. Within just over a 100 years, they were wiped out from diseases the Europeans brought over. So, there are people who look at that (and other things) and say Columbus Day isn’t something to celebrate.

The political pressure to rename and/or abandon Columbus Day is already here. So far since 1992 there are 91 cities, 3 states, 7 universities, 5 counties, 1 school district, 1 school board and 1 country (Trinidad and Tobago) have changed from Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day. Interestingly enough, 3 cities and one county celebrate both. What I am waiting for is people to start screaming about cultural appropriations since Indigenous People's Day has been around since 1989.

People are only mad about it because the internet and TV told them to be. The outrage is new in the last decade or so from what I recall. The first celebration related to it was in 1792 for the 300th anniversary. Benjamin Harrison also called for an observance in 1892 for the 400th anniversary. FDR officially made it a holiday in 1937.

Never. The 'history' of Columbus that is taught in schools these days is not the actual history, but what people that want to be offended have created to fit their wants.

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who was working for the Spanish Crown and somehow this becomes a white oppression thing in the SJW eyes because they are ignorant.

You can love him or hate him but exploration was a thing back in the day and all that had the technology and ambition were doing it. The natives here and elsewhere were fighting and killing each other long before any Europeans arrived.

It will no longer be a holiday when the cultural rot, lack of historical understanding and appreciation for all that western civilization has brought us is considered anathema by the SJW's in this country. We are not far from there.
