Between MCT and my MOS school they turned out sharp minded Marines ready to take on the true training of learning the ropes of being a good Marine from those above. I guess I was blessed early with learning that everyone has something to teach you, both good and bad, from my Senior Drill Instructor. Those who serve as your superiors can be a great resource if you show them that you're not only worthy of their experience and wisdom, but that you also have the drive to succeed in passing that accumulated knowledge to peers and lower enlisted alike. I've been out of the Corps since 1997 and I still don't pass up an opportunity to learn from others. I also don't sit idly by when someone is in need of correction as the need arises. I firmly believe that too many of us disregard this part of our training after we step across the parade deck. I feel that RTC was a good experience (I hope I'm not the only one that enjoyed it), but could have been, and well should have been tougher. Now, I had some tough RDCs; our skipper came down and capped one of ours in front of us, but the rules of what they can do these days are so stringent, and almost daycare-oriented that I feel like most other recruits were hardly effected. We probably spent more time in a classroom learning how to manage our finances than we did learning anything pertinent to our service. The physical aspect was severely lacking, and our Fleet LCPO sat down and told us that the PT regimen allowed is 'freaking bullcrap', to paraphrase him politely.

NATTC, Pensacola for ABH specialization was better, but still quite lackadaisical. 13 (in class) days of training.
