As good as this sounds, and as much as I agree with the examples that he provides, this would not work in the military. First, it is not a private company's, and by extension one person's, money. It is the money of the people that pays for the military. Due to the fact that the citizens pay for everything, it would be ridiculous to ask that those people waste their money in providing for a service member even though they cannot perform their job up to standard. Next, we already have counseling and professional development within the military. If this system were extended it would only lead to the very circumstance that we cannot allow, described in the first reason. Lastly, people do not get cut because of a bottom line. There are no colonels making millions after administratively separating a soldier for poor performance or an inability to adhere to regulation. People are booted from the service because they are physically or mentally unable to perform, they performed some kind of action against law or regulation, or they retire. There are no bonuses going around to superiors during these processes. Military leadership is already a finely tuned process that, if done correctly, works perfectly for all those involved.

I think the outcome is to severe if the people failed. Our senior leadership has made their mind up when it comes to performance and who gets to “stay on the team.”
