As most in the military are rated by their superiors what are your thoughts on approval ratings for presidents?

There seems to be little focus on the variance in the high to low or the trend (slope) being negative or positive when it come to approval ratings. Then main focus always seems to revolve around the fact if the majority think positively about the president.
However in looking at approval ratings of presidents it appears that independents tend to give a more honest assessment of a president's ability at handling the responsibilities of the office as those affiliated with a political party are often bias.
For example with Joe Biden the approval rating from taking office to current view Democrats went from 98% to 90% while Republicans went from 11% to 6% Republicans. Not a lot of movement however with Independents the margin tells a different store - 61% to 37%. That's -24% in a rather short time frame.

Considering the bias in approval ratings the variance and trend I feel are way more important as indicators of approval than the overall approval rating.
As most in the military get rated in some form what are your thoughts on the overall approval rating of a president.

It's the other way around. Presidents are basically a report card of the citizens that elected them.
Politicians aren't a separate species. They come from the populace. They are us. In avatar form.
If you have a wonderful populace, you'll have a wonderful elected body. If your citizens are garbage, you'll have garbage politicians.
They are the living embodiment of the values, morals, priorities and intellectual capacity of the citizens.
If at any time you look at our elected officials and think "we need to fix this", look around, all around us, because that's what needs fixing.
The quality of our elected officials is a direct reflection of us and our votes.
We may not ever have the government we need, but we'll always have the one we deserve.
