While Benning may seem like home, and I was there twice, I wouldn't want to be stationed there as a grunt unless it was the 75th Ranger Regiment. I give the post just an OK from my days, although I have heard that it is much modernized from my last visit.
About the only real advantage is that it's not far to Gulf. I liked Ft Campbell and that one has been recently modernized, so the quarters are nicer now. The unit is active and gets training time, and Nashville is an easy drive, or Land Between the Lakes if you are the outdoorsy type. Carson isn't bad either, Colorado Springs is OK and the Areas pretty. Haven't done anything at Bragg. Not a fan of Ft Riley and while I think that the 10th is a top notch unit, thank God I didn't have to spend a winter in Ft Drum. I don't think you would regret a tour of Germany. I was attached to the 82nd Engineers in Bamberg, which I liked a lot. If you got, learn a bit of the language, get a rail pass and see Europe.
The military base in Bamberg is closed now, but I haven't heard a lot of people really complaining about a tour.Response by CPT Lawrence Cable made Nov 1 at 2019 1:46 PM2019-11-01T13:46:00-04:002019-11-01T13:46:00-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member5191238

I'm not an infantryman, but I've worked in combat arms my entire career. Some of the best assignments from my peers were Italy, Bragg, Richardson, Benning, Hawaii, Eglin and Hunter AAF, Drum and Campbell.
The first three you aren't going to unless you're Airborne.
Eglin you need to be Ranger qualified. Hunter is 1/75 so you need to pass RASP.
Hawaii because of location. Benning because of the small unit and all the schools available.
I don't know why Campbell but people who have been there love it. As for Drum, most people who have been there said the area sucks but the leadership and unit were outstanding.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 1 at 2019 2:05 PM2019-11-01T14:05:32-04:002019-11-01T14:05:32-04:00CW4 Craig Urban5191659

Italy. 100 percent. Korea had so many activities going on. Benning for great for the walk on slots for all the schools there and different jobs 11 series fill that aren't restricted to just rifleman duties. A bit of everything in the area whether you’re an outdoorsman or love the city life.

As far as training the infantry stuff isn’t gonna be better than any larger unit but the specialty platoons will give you a chance at really unique opportunities even for a lower enlisted guys.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 10 at 2020 2:10 PM2020-01-10T14:10:03-05:002020-01-10T14:10:03-05:00Maj John Bell6598700

Not in the Army so probably not all that helpful.... But.... The Best duty station I was at as far as my MOS. Naval Submarine Base Bangor, Marine Barracks. I had a training budget for my 135 man company that was about 4 times greater than an FMF Rifle Company. We had a great relationship with the Rangers at Ft Lewis, and they regularly allowed us to send the platoon that was in training week to join in their high speed low drag training events and live fires (and it never cost me a budget dollar one other than transport to and from). And the CG of 9th ID used us regularly as aggressors.Response by Maj John Bell made Dec 21 at 2020 8:18 PM2020-12-21T20:18:02-05:002020-12-21T20:18:02-05:00SGT Larry Reed7283965

My first duty station was at Fort Ord, Ca.
