You can go to Ranger school and earn a tab if that is your question.

Hi! So I turn 17 in May and was planning on joining the guard. My plan is after AIT, go to Airborne School and then I wanted to see what my chances would be to get a seat in pre ranger. I have always wanted to make it to the Rangers and I feel like I could do it if I were to put the work in. Could anyone provide me with some tips to help me achieve my goals?

Get released from the guard with a 368 or whatever the form is and go active with an option 40 contract. That’s the quick answer. I’m someone with more experience in the recruiter area can help. GL

You can go to Ranger School and earn your SQI to either make you a "Ranger Qualified" (G) or (V) "Ranger Parachutist," but that will not make you a Ranger in the special operations sense. The only way to do that is to attempt to join the 75th Ranger Regiment and complete RASP. Many of our infantry positions are SQI G coded in the National Guard if that is your intent. The National Guard also has 19th and 20th Group Special Forces if you would rather go that route.

You can go to Ranger school and be Ranger Qualified, and some would call that being a Ranger. But you cannot be in the NG and be a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment at the same time.
So, you can earn your tab, and be called a Ranger. Or, you can go to RASP and earn your Beret and Scroll and be a Ranger in the 75th.

It all depends on if the Mass. Army NG has a slot to send you to the school. Ask your 1SG if there are any Ranger School slots allocated to your unit. If there are, I'm just guessing, but I don't think State HQ is going to give one to a PV2. If they are available, it is very likely that there are some SP4s and SGTs that have been waiting for a Ranger school slot. Hang in there, there are a few ways to make you goal a reality.

Graduation of Ranger School puts the tab on your arm and you are eligible to attend. Ready the news lately one might say anyone can meet the new Ranger standard. Being a member of the 75th puts you in a separate brotherhood within those that wear the tab. The standard inside the 75th has not changed no matter how PC everyone wants it to get.

Yes. Either immediately following AIT under the Ranger Team Leader Initiative or be completing the Ranger School Readiness Evaluation in the state which is run 2x per year.

In your Battalion you can attend Ranger School 100% you first need to attend the Ranger School Readiness Evaluation. The next one should be in September.
