As a military personnel, how do u greet your comrade when you meet him/her?

Oliver J. Fagans Are you referring to a Private saluting an Officer, or a Private addressing an NCO as Sergeant Smith, where do I find the duty roster? If it is after work hours and you are talking to a friend, it would be first name basis. During work hours it depends on the unit and situation.

At my first weekend Drill, I'm approached by a Captain and immediately I snap to attention and render a salute; but to my surprise, I'm told not to salute while at Drill Training. Varies depending on person. Some a hug, others a handshake, still others I wave from afar. Lol

Anyone I am friends with, military or not, I say "hey, what's up?" When friends of mine got promoted before I did, I referred to them by their rank in uniform. Actually all my Army friends, I call by their last name even off duty because I'm so used to it. It took a long time for me to call my really close Army friends by their first name. And it's weird when I would hear them call me by my first name lol.

I don't hug or really hand shake or anything. Honestly the only person I hug is my daughter. Like I don't even hug my parents or my siblings. We didn't grow up with a lot of PDA. I love them. Hugging is just awkward. So I definitely don't hug friends, even my best friend I've known my entire life.

depends - if an Officer, the greeting of the day, a peer, usually "good morning", subordinates - "Fall in"

if we are close and I have not seen them in a long time with a hug and back slap. I don't care if they are officers LOL. if we are not close just a hello and hand shake. If its an old fling I hoping for more maybe a trip to a private place. If she is OK with it. I am not sure what your looking for. But Hey anything is OK really. As long as you wear a mask. LOL

To me not much different than if I wasn't in the military. If during duty hours, we would greet each other with, something like: Hey, what's happening and how have you been? Then followed by something like: let's get together after hours and wash down a couple and share war stories. If the idea of seeing the person afterwards is not something you or that person want to do, just end the conversation with something like, great seeing again. If the person out ranks, you I would keep the conversation formal.

If you go to basic training you’ll be taught military customs and courtesy. It’s a system of showing respect up and down the rank structure that has developed over centuries promoting good order and discipline in military forces.

In general you show respect by action and words to those superior in rank to you. In return they show respect for you by providing good leadership and management along with appropriate forms of address.

Peer to peer casual communication still exists. First names, nicknames, or last names are used among enlisted or officer personnel of the same rank when subordinates aren’t present. Of course racial, ethnic, or discriminatory language is prohibited.
