Before posting a question on Rally Point, open MS Word (2010) on your computer. Ensure you make the following proofing changes:
-Click File, Options, Select Proofing from left column options
-Under the heading "When correcting spelling in Microsoft Office Programs" check the first 4 boxes
-Under the heading "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word" check the first 4 boxes, for Writing Style select Grammar & Style, then select Writing Style Settings and select the following:
-Comma required: Always
-Punctuation required with quotes: Always
-Spaces required between sentences: 2
-Check EVERY BOX, then click OK
Click OK again
Now your MS Word will alert you when you fail to write in a moderately educated fashion. This will allow your readers to concentrate on the subject of your post and not your lack of education or lack of attention to detail. Once you are happy with the outcome of your writing, copy and paste it in Rally Point with confidence that your point will be made. If you don't have MS Office 2010, google "MS Word Proofing" for whatever version you have and it will walk you through similar steps.

I don't get hung up on it. Some are using their smart phone and those can be a bear using the RP AP. I do not even reply to a post on my phone, just not worth the effort. I suppose if the spelling, punctuation and sentence structure were really poor I might say something or perhaps refer them to a book such as Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynne Truss. It is a fun read about the misuse of punctuation.

As I am a bit of a "grammar Nazi" myself, no I'm not. I look at it this way. We're all military professionals here and are (or were in the case of veterans and retirees) expected to be able to write various types of reports.

Usually, when one does that, it is a result of not having anything positive to add to a debate/discussion. Although, it does cause someone to wonder how anyone can advance in the military with limited knowledge of the English language. My interest is in the value of what has been posted. The rest is only when return fire is found to be an essential component of the exchange.

I will not comment on "you're" mistakes, but I am sorely disappointed when I make those mistakes. I'm "That Guy" who will edit my post over and over to make sure that "theirs" no mistake in "it's" grammatical construction. That bothers me "alot" "to"...

Yes. I use my iPhone and it makes its own correction. Not just marking them in red. and I press post before I review it. And unlike fb you can not correct it.

That is what I am talking about. I type a lot faster than I can check what I am writing some times. If I get a good idea I will write a huge response and not think about it and post it. Then I notice that I had a lot of errors in it. The worst was some guy trying to call me out for being an officer and not being able to write well. If they get the point what does it matter.

I am SICK and TIRED of selective enforcement and of numerous Admins who seem to think they've been promoted to Admiral of the Fleet!!! As to poor grammar and spelling, Admins don't seem to care about it. I, however, wonder how so many people were promoted with such abysmal English skills.

I haven't corrected anyone here, but when I see poor writing, especially from SNCOs and officers I can't help but take them less seriously. Using your phone as an excuse is tired. I'm on my phone typing this reply and seem to not have any issues.
That said, the only time it bothers me that much is when I can't decipher the message.

It is annoying. I post from my phone a lot through the app. Editing is not always easy on the phone. It my be a smart phone but is is not really smart. Autocorrect is not always correct and if I type too fast it seems to be a grammatic mess when it posts. I make it a point to go back and correct any errors from a computer if I can. No one is perfect and technology can work against you sometimes.

So far I haven't had any complaints. I'm a big enough critic on my own. It seems every time I post something and go back to read it after posting I find some stupid mistake.

It depends on if they are helping me with an oft repeated error, or attempting to use a grammatical error to discredit an argument.

That said, there are some folks here who claim advanced degrees who completely fail to convince me of their education with their extremely poor writing. It's one thing to err, it's another to be unbelievably sloppy and use poor sentence construction while claiming a Master's degree or higher.

Sometimes the grammar mistakes are made because these smart phones anticipate what it thinks you want to say, and prints a word that you didn't type. I've had that happen to me on more than one occasion.
