I have talked to quite a few veterans lately who are finding it difficult to find employment.
So.... if you are a veteran seeking employment I offer the following:

Military Veterans who are seeking employment in the "civilian" work sector need to know "YOU" are unique, "YOUR" training, knowledge and experiences have set "YOU" apart from all those who did not serve. "YOU" have what they want and they are seeing and realizing what unique traits (those NOT taught in academia) that our Veterans bring to the table. The next time you find yourself sitting across from your interviewer(s)........ "Be Proud" (YOU "Earned" that right) "Be Confident" (without being arrogant) "Be Knowledgeable" (without being boastful) "Be Professional" (in a "friendly manner")

Above all....Remember! "YOU" are a United States of America "Military Veteran".

GOD Bless to all my brothers and sisters who proudly serve and have served Our Great Nation.

Now! Go out and get that "great" job that you rightly deserve.

You are so right on what you said here. I've been to job interviews and allot of them turn me down because of my medical disabilitys and the medications I'm on. I did get a job however. It's part time and I though I would be just a cashier at the store but to find out they put me in a supervisors position because of my military back ground. We veterans are a breed of very special people and company's want us. Go out there and get what you have earned in the cilivian world. I salute all my brothers and sisters here on RP

Sometimes you have to work around the "traditional" system to get in. Voc Rehab was my ticket in. I'm an intern, and hope to be hired when I get past my intern phase. There are lots of places not in government that are doing the same. Start off as an intern and work your way in.

I'm NOT plugging or saying this is a bad thing, but this is an email I got from someone looking for a Combat Wounded Vet:

Dear Wounded Warrior Cyber Combat Academy Applicant,

Thanks for applying to the Wounded Warrior Cyber Combat Academy. While we are still working on securing funding for our next cyber team of students, I wanted to let you know of an immediate employment opportunity that might interest you.
One of our partners, Gritter Franconia Inc. has a current contract with an immediate need. They are looking to take a transitioning combat wounded veteran and train them on the job in Cybersecurity. There is no real experience required, but if the veteran has some cyber certs or background that is helpful. The job is open immediately.

I thought it was really easy, good employers love veterans, I really just kind of talked normally (colloquial) through my interview and everything went fine

Maybe you should let all of the employers know that I have applied to. I don't think they got the memo.

I've been looking for months. Officer, security clearance, military training, leadership/management experience, deployment experience, all clearly outlined on my Resume. Everyone acted as though this should be the easiest thing in the world. After all, so many jobs are "military friendly" and supportive of "vets." Yet, I've sent dozens of resumes out, filled in dozens more online job applications. The only response I've gotten so far is negative.
My impression of the civilian job market so far is that I wouldn't be eligible for a street beggar job because I don't have 6-8 years of street begging experience and a Master's degree in street begging.
Luckily I haven't ETS-d yet. But, I have a family to support and am growing increasingly concerned as the days and months fly by.
