Today was the last day for the Army Green Service Uniform. So long farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, good night..... The dress blue Class A uniform is the only approved Army Service Uniform. How do you feel about this? I always thought the dress blues were much classier than the dress greens and we all looked like walking pickles in it.

Being old school, the Army greens look normal to me. The Army blues remind me of the 1860s. They look good, but they clash with my mental picture.

I personally like the dress blues better, but I'm not sure how blue is an Army color. I was always proud of my uniform either way.

I'm not in the Army or an expert, but I think the green uniform looked more appropriate as a Service uniform. Blues should be a dress uniform exclusively (like with ours). Perhaps it does look more classy, but for me the green "suit" looks more relate-able for the job...

Like good old soldiers and service members like we are. We need to move with the changing times. Adapting and Overcoming, Many may not like the changes but changes are good, and if its not will do an about face. For me, I like the new Blue Class A's. There sexier! I'm Army all the way but don't many of us feel that the Marines has the best Blues? Army Blues or Marine Blues. I say they compliment and respectfuly represent thier Branches well.
I like it because it looks better with the Blue Cord!

I liked the Dress Blues for special occasions, & the nostalgia from our Cav history. Since I'm a veteran, I wear my green Class A's if I need to show up in uniform for an event. Guess I'll be showing my age....

As for being a former Armor Cav Soldier, I liked the dress blues better. It was a reminder of the heritage of the old 'Mounted Cavalry'. Mount up Soldiers and prepare to charge.

I have been wearing the Blue ASU for nearly 3 years. I still have my old greens but I will probably never wear them again.

I didn't even know y'all were still authorized to wear your greens, I thought they were out a couple of years ago. In any case I will say from my perspective that while both uniforms look good there is something about the greens that I do think looks better.

I was roughly fitted my first set of summer [AG-344] and winter weight [AG-44] in November 1974. Since I was entering basic combat training and there was a realistic expectation that my size would change based on countless push-ups, pull-ups, sit-up, a few dying cockroaches and cut-aways [front leaning rest to parade rest over asphalt or concrete] the actual cut was made later. My first sets of greens were somewhat ill-fitted; but, since they were government issued and paid for I didn't complain.
My next sets I was required to purchase be cause I was going to be a commissioned officer. The funds were taken from our USMA cadet account [funds paid to us but sued to purchase government equipment, books, uniforms, etc,]. This set of greens was custom fit by Haas Tailors. I couldn't help but to compare the processes of 1974 to 1980 and level of care, to custom fit to the black stripe along the side of the trousers.
I had saved sets of uniforms from green fatigues, through starchable khakis, BDUs, mess and dress blues, and yes Army greens [AG-489 introduced in the 1990's]. All my uniforms were lost when we were evicted last summer - I gave them up because I did not have sufficient space to store them.

Turned mine in when I got out in 2003. Have returned to service 5 years ago and still don't have a set of ASU's for one reason or another. Before someone says anything, no I don't have the finances to go out and spend 500-800 dollars to purchase a set!

CPT Private RallyPoint Member - I guess I am just "old school", but I am sad to see the "greens" go. I like the Army Blue uniform, but think it more appropriate as a dress uniform, as originally intended.

I also was never a fan of the idea to get rid of khakis/TWs, as I thought they were great as a Class B uniform. Certainly much more military looking than the green pants/shirt combo that made you look like a bus driver, airline pilot or something.

Real simple to me. Why are in a constant state of flux on uniforms? Unless there is a safety or national security reason, leave them alone. Good Grief, its getting so you don't know the branch of service anymore. On the bright side, the MIC appreciates the effort.

Greens for my entire career from '87-'13, to me the Blues were always for that special occasion and look so much better than the ASU version does, at least IMO. Still think they should have gone back to a uniform similar to the WWII look and kept the Blues as was.

I'm out now, so I never wore the blues. But I prefer the Army dress green uniform. The blue uniform reminds me of Air Force, or Navy. Army is green, so its dress uniform should be green. Plus, I always thought I looked good in my Class A's. I can't fit them very well like I used to, but when I wore them I looked pretty spiffy. And they look good with jump boots too.
That's another argument with those ugly and cheap ACUs. I think the Army is going with the multi-cam uniform now, but they still wear the desert boots. It just makes no sense to me because when you walk in water you ruin your boots. The black boots you can always clean and shine.

The Class A Greens weren't sharp looking anyway, so no. But replacing it with the Dress Uniform didn't make much sense. In terms of economy, it makes sense. But now there is no "in-between", so office work is done wearing either a field uniform or a dress uniform. Same with travel. Many of us suggested the WWII era " Pinks and Greens", a return to tradition. Oh well, I'm retired and have the option of wearing the old greens since they were authorized when I retired.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member, I think that adopting the dress blue uniform as the standard dress uniform was the latest in a series of lamentable and poor decisions that the Army has continued to make since post WWII. Nothing looks more absurd than a soldier wearing the ASUs with bloused boots, and a maroon/green/tan beret. There's so much color they look like clown suits.
I would have maintained the green uniform or even reverted back to the uniforms of WWII with updated materials.
I find it distressing that the USMC has maintained the status quo for eons, yet the Army makes wholesale changes every few years. It's like the Army has a child like identity crisis and never grows up.
Lamentable and sad.

I've had mixed feelings about the new ASU since it was announced. The position that it is a nod to Army tradition is a little specious. The longest lived single uniform(combined color and style) in the Army's history was the Army Green Service Uniform - 60 some odd years. Toward the end of its lifespan it got a little busy what with the proliferation of badges, tabs, ribbons and patches. And the green shirt was fugly. The clutter could have been cleaned up using some of the same measures adopted with the new ASU. And I'll bet there were one or two tan dress shirts laying around somewhere. At its inception it wasn't the most comfortable; the material was hot and heavy and a killer in warm weather. But we had khakis for summer( and TW's, the most comfortable uniform of all). Over the years new materials solved the comfort problem. And it looked great with bloused boots and berets. As for blousing the ASU; I've a picture of my great grandfather in his Civil War Cavalry uniform and even then they didn't tuck their blues in their boots.
Don't misunderstand my position; I thought the Army Dress Blue Uniform was great in its setting and keeping it would have been just fine. A simplified Service Uniform was overdue and the traditional Green Service Uniform could have been cleaned up and done very well. But combining the Service and Dress Uniforms created a mish-mash that just looks goofy.

I spent time in the Navy and then the Army.
I was in the 82nd Airborne.
Nothing like the dress greens with your jump boots on and pants tucked in with your maroon beret on.
The blues won't look half as good in my opinion

I haven't done my diligence to figure out why Blue would be re-adopted by the Army... I know the history of the various uniforms, but not why the Army would forsake green for the blue of the Airforce/ Navy. Long live the pickle suit and or the class tans of WWII.

While I always preferred my Dad's uniforms (he was Army Air Corp cum Army Air Force), he had three different versions, A well tailored set of greens looked very sharp, military, authoritative. They put a twinkle in the ladies eyes, too. :)

I liked the Dress Army Greens, that being said. Upon selection for Recruiting duty 1979, we had to buy our Dress Blues for school visitations, or as subscribed by station Cdr's. I rather like the early Dress Blues We didn't wear unit and combat patches on the Blues, just unit crests for current assignment. With patent leather low quarters and Service cap (bus driver). Mine ar still in my closet with a set of GREENS. Service cap bill crumbled to powder, and shoes dried and cracked.

The Army Green Service Uniform was originally worn with a khaki dress shirt and black four in hand necktie. It was a pretty distinguished look, then we started wearing the odd green shirt, that changed the look of the uniform. Ladies had a dress that color for awhile and we had lace staff cars that strange green color. Farewell to one uniform, hail to the blues and standing by for the next

Sometimes change is good. Air Force did away with the 1505's (tan uniform) back in 1973 I believe the last time I wore it, I miss it but the blue uniform we wear daily now is more professional on a daily basis.

I still have my Dress Blues, wool, not the polyester, I purchased my tailor made and only wore them one time during my military service of 24 years... I liked the khakis, all starched, then came the greens...
