I have been a bad boy (inadvertently) and have awarded some Blue Ribbons prematurely. The fault was mine and mine alone. I read too much/little into the criteria and made a judgement call that wasn't mine to make. If you were awarded a Blue Ribbon using this thread, or since the last week, please help me make amends and fill in your profile more completely, especially the deployment and military experience sections. Please help me make this right so we don't take away from the significance of the Blue Ribbon. SFC Mark Merino I have to say I find it kinda funny that everyone on the thread that is about earning a blue ribbon already has one! LOL I am never going to have a 100% completed profile as I don't have a Facebook page. lol So, I guess inviting new members through Facebook is not really an option for me. I've never had one and don't plan on ever having one. lol Maybe I'm just to old...and while I am very proud of my service to this country...it was almost 30 years ago and I wouldn't want to put something in my profile history that wasn't exactly accurate so I might not be as complete as others.

If all that means I don't get a blue ribbon at some point then I am OK with that. I didn't join the service to get ribbons and I certainly am not on this site to get them either.

I certainly don't want to end up the title of some thread in the future with a picture of me wearing a big blue ribbon that I didn't earn and having a bunch of Marines calling me out for a wearing ribbon I wasn't awarded! lol (No, I'm not saying it funny to wear a service uniform with medals that you weren't awarded!)

I sent in a request to the site support email a couple days back and have not heard anything. When I had requested a review a couple weeks ago, I found out I still needed to meet some qualifications. That message was sent within a couple hours of my request. I'm not sure of the delay this time.

I will never have a 100% complete profile because I refuse to be a part of, and thus link to the major social networks, I hope that is not a detractor.

Guidelines for the Blue Ribbon award:

Account must be verified.
You are not required to have a 100% completed profile, but the more the better.
Profile photo should be professional (proper attire and settings).
Career experience listing should be comprehensive and cover your entire career.
Career experiences must have detailed descriptions, not just list out the titles. These descriptions can be copied directly from your performance reports or summarized. If you have deployments, a description of each deployment is also expected.
Professional Summary should convey to the community something meaningful about you, so others can get to know you better.
Formed at least 15 connections and received at least one or more endorsements.
Earned a minimum of 2,500 influence points.
Profile content (military experience, deployment, military credentials, civilian experience, and endorsements) must be visible to Verified Active Military at the least. You can adjust your settings here: Privacy Settings

I must admit, I'm NOT good at computers. I guess I'm scared of new tech! Yes, I STILL have a record player with records, a castle player with cassettes, and a Walkman! I still feel new to RallyPoint . All the stuff on here. I want to make my profile better but I have not done a resume since 1999! Seriously, the Sarin gas, and smoke from the oil well fires gave me, ( along with Gulf War Illness, decreased cognitive functioning, and memory loss, along with other diagnosis. It's very hard to remember dates, and events. I've had T.B.I.'S in military service, and ATLEAST 3 T.B.I.'S since I've been disabled. The V.A. HAS NOT really helped with my head trauma. I don't know if I should, AGAIN self refer to the V.A. Hospital in Palto Alto, CA. The V.A.'s environmemtal clinic for stuff like G.W.I. . I'm SOO STRESSED, with this as well as all the stuff with our house!!

That's odd, every blue ribbon example you gave is from an Army guy's profile, except one -- and in the one Navy example you gave, the SCPO isn't wearing a uniform. Also the ranks selected were pretty senior. Apparently RHIP.

I can see having people nominate others, but people shouldn't have to ask to have their own profiles reviewed. That should be one of the functions of the 1 and 2 star admins... Guiding topics of discussion should be more a 1, 2, 3 and 4 star job. And I don't really see a whole lot of that going on. Furthermore, when admins delete people's messages, there should be a placeholder showing where a message was deleted. A message should be sent to the person whose message was deleted explaining why.

I've seen two people disappear from Rallypoint. One a SPC (SM) and the other an Army Captain (R). The SPC got in trouble at work for things he said to a pretty mixed up Army Reservist 1LT, and the 1LT contacted his command and complained. Timely intervention from an Admin/Moderator could have spared both the complaint and the loss of a good contributor. I have no idea why the Captain disappeared but he too was a regular contributor and was occasionally attacked for his opinions, by those claiming to be Agnostic/Atheist. Some of the conversations devolved into Facebook like personal attacks and I suspect he just threw in the towel and said, "Not worth it."

I enjoy respectful debate, and can always go to Facebook to see juvenile debate between so-called adults. I spend a lot less time on Facebook since I have found more meaningful discussion on RP... till lately. RP is what people make of it and when we start getting worked up about ribbons and award for profiles... it's starting to get like the Boy Scouts. Am pretty sure I'm preaching to the choir, but the selection criteria should be unbiased and representative. That's just my opinion.

It doesn't matter if you compile with rules and try harder than anybody else in order to see that blue ribbon in your profile, I have done everything I was asked for, my profile is 100% completed, and I got turned down because my profile picture wasn't appropriate. I would like to be considered for Blue Ribbon. For my entire military and civilian career I have been placed in a leadership position. The first time was squad leader in Basic Training. When I was involved in live theater in California I was quickly advanced to Technical Director, Stage Manager and Lighting Tech at various times.
