Are you more likely to be alive today if you saw combat in the gulf, vs those who did not?

I did a little number crunching, and the results might surprise you.
COMBAT VET SURVIVAL RATE: 89%
THEATER VET SURVIVAL RATE: 79%
DEPLOYED VET SURVIVAL RATE: 85%
NON-DEPLOYED SURVIVAL RATE: 62%

If you served during the gulf war, but did not deploy - you are FOUR TIMES more likely to be dead right now than someone who saw combat. (This number includes those who died in combat too!)

Any thoughts on why this statistical anomaly is happening?

Perhaps the last category includes those who were more senior hence older?
