I sent a copy of my DD-214. It is no problem if you black out all information that could lead to IS theft. IMO, that should be the gold standard.

I sent my SSN. I keep major tabs on my stuff and felt comfortable with this organization. Hell, when I was serving everyone had my SSN anyway. Leader's books, alpha rosters, meal rosters, etc. It was everywhere.

Cpl Ray Frigerio - I am one of the admins that does the verification for RallyPoint. We tell people to black out there SSN prior to sending in your documents. For the most part people do this and it is no issue. You can send us your verification documents via email at [login to see] and one of us will review your account and verify it.

I sent two DD214s WITH my SSN on them to verify my RallyPoint account. I didn't know it then, but I know it now: RallyPoint is not here to steal your identity. We just want to verify your military service. As others have said, if you are uncomfortable sharing your SSN or other personal information, block it out (by all means!).

Cpl Ray Frigerio, you'll be surprised how many sites (including the VA) ask for your DD214 (via email) for validation. It's actually become quite commonplace. ALWAYS make sure to remove your SSN!!!
