Are you able to go accompanied to Korea with just a child? If I leave my son with my FCP, will my husband I still both receive BAH?

My husband and I are dual military. He is set to deploy and I am on orders to Korea but we have a son. Two questions:
1. Are you able to go accompanied to Korea with just yourself and a child?
2. If I leave my son with my FCP will my husband I still both receive BAH?

The best advice I can give is check with your supervisor and see if he can get the needed information for you, or see if personnel can shed any light on the subject for you.

Lots of thing changing in Korea, and mostly for the best. Camp Hump is a heck of a new post....compared to earlier visits. Most everything is new there. I visited in 2015 when I wrote a book on Korea and it got a great tour of Camp Hump.

You can certainly get command sponsorship for your son. The issue will be that you absolutely need a good FCP in Korea because of the evacuation drills.

You would have to be command sponsored to take your son as a dependent to Korea and the first question any leader should ask, will your FCP person be in Korea with you the entire time? It is not much of a FCP if it involves either the child or the support person flying from the US to Korea. BAH wise, overseas is typically OHA and it is a set amount; you will get housing of some sort and if your husband is keeping a residence stateside, he should still get BAH at that rate.

You need to be prepared for a very rough 1-2 years as being a single parent is rough and watching your little boy live at one place and your husband another will be challenging. I was a major when I went to Korea unaccompanied, almost 40, and that was the roughest time of my life. I had only been married three years, had a three and one year old, and it was hard. My wife spend most of my year in the Philippines with family where she grew up and that made it easier. I hope it is easier for you.

Ask finance in Korea, what does your orders say. If accompanied with dependent, you are good. Your orders will answer most of your questions

You can request to go accompanied so you can bring your child and a car and live off base but that’s solely on you. USFK has the right to deny you but that rarely happens because they do want families overseas more in Korea. I just came back from Korea with my family and plan on going back as soon as possible
