If we don't at least have a hand in the post conflict era in Syria you can be assured that other countries, groups, and/or factions will, and we will most likely not be happy with who ends up gaining influence. Politically, I think that an Arab nation or coalition needs to be the face of this effort with the US in an advisory role and offering financial and logistic support. The safest route for us would I think would be to get Jordan to take lead. They have a vested security interest in the stability of Syria, they are a strong US ally, and they are looking to expand their influence.

The Costs of War are unimaginable. I recall former V.P. Cheney claiming that the Iraq war would pay for itself. Again the conceit of the human race knows no bounds.

I don't think we any obligation to do so. The only way I see us doing it, is if it is in the government's perceived self interest to do so.

Why would we be? Last I heard ISIS and their own Govt. is at fault there.

maybe not actual clean up but I see billions of $ being sent to help out.
